RSS Sarkaryavah Shri Suresh Soni appealed to the people working in political field to make it an area of service and do not use it as a business. He was addressing a youth convention organised by Syama Prasad Mookerjee Research Foundation (SPMRF) in Kolkata on July 6. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chauhan was also present on the occasion. Famous scholar Shri Shyamalesh Das, also a biographer of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee, presented a moving account of the life and times of Dr Mookerjee. Former Chief of Army Staff General Shankar Roychaudhury presided over the function.
Shri Soni said Dr Mookerjee stood for Hindu values and became a legend in his lifetime. He was a great icon of nationalist spirit and inspired millions with his life and actions. Taking a dig at the corrupt and de-socialised polity, he said Dr Mookerjee was an icon of political morality and principled behaviour. Once a prominent Jan Sangh leader resigned from his university job to devote full time to politics. When Dr Mookerjee learnt about it he immediately asked him to withdraw resignation saying politics is an area to serve the people and not an investment opportunity to make more money. “But things have changed today. Nobody knows from where these politicians earn so much money to live a luxurious life,” he added.
Former Army Chief General Shankar Roychaudhury said politics, bad political leadership and students’ too much involvement in political activities, which in Bengal comprises most of the groups belonging to the ruling front, has resulted in the deteriorating situation in Bengal and a fall in its erstwhile superior position. Shri Tarun Vijay, director of the Foundation and Dr Harsh Vardhan, secretary of the Foundation also spoke on the occasion.
