Vivekananda Sewa Samman to Swami Samvit Somgiri Maharaj

The Vivekananda Sewa Samman for the year 2009 would be presented to Swami Samvit Somgiri Maharaj at a function to be held in Kolkata on January 11. Instituted by Shree Burrabazar Kumarsabha Pustakalaya, the Samman consists of a cash prize of Rs 51,000 and a citation. Born on November 23, 1943 in Bikaner, Rajasthan, Swami Samvit Somgiri received B.E. Mechanical degree from Jodhpur University in 1966 and later worked as a lecture in the same university. But he left the job in 1971 and became a sannyasi. He worked tirelessly for the propagation of the Vedas. He founded Manav Prabodhan Pranyas, which runs various projects. He also founded Samvit Shooting Sansthan in Bikaner to propagate shooting.
