When TV news channels flashed Rohit Monserrate coming out of Court after getting bail, the smugness and arrogance on his face seemed to say it all??I am the son of the Education Minister of Goa. I can do any crime and get away with it? I am the boss in Goa??. Considering the fact that the present Education Minister of Goa is himself currently embroiled in a suit for deliberately misstating his educational qualification as being a high school graduate whereas his academic records prove him to be a mere seventh standard pass.

One should not be surprised at the son for inheriting his father'sfraudulent nature and raping a 14 year-old German minor and then denying the crime. What is difficult for an academician like me to digest is seeing an alleged 7th standard passed candidate head such an important portfolio as education in our country. Only the Congress led UPA Government can take credit for such bizarre happenings in our country. This reminds me of what our former President Zakir Hussain had to say about education in our country. According to the late President Shri Zakir Hussain, ?there is too much politics in Education and too little education in politics?.

The Education Minister who has too little education himself as it has been alleged and has no qualms in producing false documents to become a Minister, what values can such a man give to his son? None! which is why the rape. If the father is using his political clout to cover up his lack of academic qualification to become Education Minister, the son is using the same political clout to hush up his raping a German minor.

Just a few months ago it was the gruesome death of the British teenager Scarlett Keeling whose body was found with more than 50 wounds to hit the newspaper headlines and now it is the German minor'sturn to be raped. The mother of the German rape victim was threatened and pushed so violently that she was forced to withdraw her charges out of fear when she realised that she would never get justice from the Congress Government in Goa. Our Hindu culture and time honored custom teaches us the virtue?Atithi Devo Bhavah?guest is God. Look at the disgusting way we treat the foreign guests who visit our country. It'sa national shame. Shame on the Congress Government in Goa. If the rape of the German minor girl has understandably angered activists and NGO'sworking for Women, the severing of a finger with a chopper of a lawyer who wanted to take up the rape victim'scase against Rohit Monserrate is proof of the complete breakdown of the law and order situation in Goa? courtsey the Congress Government. The only silver lining is the Goa bench of the Bombay High Court issuing a notice to the Goa Education Minister'sson?Rohit, asking him why the bail granted to him by a juvenile court shouldn'tbe cancelled.

According to studies by Transparency International, Goa is among the most corrupt states in India. The old Goa before the real estate mafia took over was visibly pleasant for its flora, fauna, feni, and sun kissed beaches. Goa a paradise then, is now lost to sex, drugs and sleaze. The recent two brutal incidents?death of Scarlett Keeling and the rape of the German minor will definitely have a negative impact on the tourism in Goa.

It is said that the Goa police are deliberately covering up the Scarlett Keeling murder and the rape incident to protect tourism in Goa. But the bizarre happenings in Goa have been exposed by an incisive media. It'sthere for everyone to see. So I don'tthink Goa'sdadagiri politics, the corrupt police and the justice system will be able to shield such shocking crimes from public perusal.

Every six minutes a woman gets raped in India. Age and class is no bar for rape. Little girls from 5 to 6 to Grandma'sin 50'sare getting raped. The police when they get to know of a rape or even when a rape victim approaches them almost always discourage the family from filing a complaint. Often the victim'sfamily is threatened if the alleged rapist is someone in a powerful position as it is with Rohit Monserrate. The police remind the victim of the serious social repercussions and force the victim to withdraw the case.

What is shameful and difficult to digest is that all these crimes against women are happening when two Congress women politicians are holding the reins of the ruling Congress Government. The Forbes Magazine has listed the world's100 most powerful women and Sonia Gandhi figures in the list. Considering the awesome power which Sonia Gandhi commands, one would think that she would do something positive for the protection and empowerment of women, but sadly this is not happening? Sonia Gandhi is fully absorbed in vote grabbing political manoeuvre which leaves her with little time for taking up genuine, pressing issues of women'swelfare. ?They say a country gets the leaders it deserves. What have we done to get leaders like these?? asks P. Balakrishnan in the ?Talking Point?? Column of the DNA newspaper dated November 11th. I have no answer to Shri Balakrishnan'srelevant question.

Sheila Dikshit, another lady Congress bigwig has been Chief Minister of Delhi for the last ten years, but she has failed in providing security for the women in the capital. Rapes and crimes against women are being reported with alarming regularity in Delhi. Ritwika Paul, a resident of Safdarjung Road is unhappy with the administration. Paul works in a MNC and arrives home late at night. ?There is hardly a single policeman in the area at night? laments this woman MNC worker. Recently when 26 year old TV journalist Soumya Vishwanathan was murdered in Delhi all that Shelia Dikshit had to say was that Soumya was too adventurous and that women should not travel late in the night. Can anything be more shameful than this? Coming as it is from a woman Chief Minister.
