Hindu anger made Delhi jails overflow with Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti protestors. They launched the Jail Bharo agitation. Over a lakh people courted arrest on a single day in Delhi. They included top political leaders, RSS pracharaks, women and children. It was a joint protest of all Hindu organisations to extend support to the month-old Amarnath Shrine Board agitation in Jammu.

There are reports of similar protests from other parts of the country also. Thousands of protestors including BJP, RSS, VHP and Bajrang Dal activists courted arrest in Ahmedabad on August 21. RSS Prant Sanghachalak Shri Amritbhai Kariwala and Swami Akhileshananda Maharaj led the agitation.

Carrying the tri-colours and saffron flags the agitators in Delhi declared on August 21 that they are ready for any kind of sacrifice for Baba Amarnath. The countrywide Jail Bharo Andolan under the banner of Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti will continue till August 23.

The agitators had prominently targeted six DCP offices of Delhi including Nand Nagari, Bhola Nath Nagar, Hauz Khas, Rajouri Garden, Ashok Vihar and Paharganj. They assembled at certain points and then marched towards the respective DCP offices, where they courted arrest. All the people were released by noon. A memorandum was submitted to each DCP at all the six places.

Addressing the gathering in Rajouri Garden VHP general secretary Dr Pravin Togadia said the Hindus would not allow anybody for another partition of the country. ?Nothing less than the land and restoration of autonomous status to the shrine board is acceptable to us. The anti-national elements indulged in burning the national flag and hoisting Pakistani flag must be booked immediately,? he said. Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, Shri Satyendra Mohan, Shri Roshanlal Gorakhpuriya, Shri Om Prakash Pahuja were among the other dignitaries who courted arrest there.

A group of over ten thousand protestors rallied near Karkarduma Court in East Delhi and marched towards the DCP office in Bhola Nath Nagar. The group was led by Delhi BJP president Dr Harsh Vardhan, RSS Poorvi Vibhag Sanghachalak Shri Ishwar Das Mahajan and Shri Rashtra Prakash of VHP.

State co-convener of the Sangharsh Samiti Shri Swadesh Pal Gupta led the group at DCP office in Hauz Khas. Joint general secretaries of VHP Shri Champat Rai and Shri Omkar Bhave and senior BJP leader Arun Jaitely were among the prominent leaders who courted arrest.

In Central Delhi, protestors assembled at Shri Ram Vatika by 9.00 am and marched towards the DCP office in Pahar Ganj. RSS National Executive Member Shri Ram Madhav, Swami Raghvanand, president Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha, Swami Sarvanand, Prof. Vijay Kumar Malhotra, Sradar Ujagar Singh led the protesters. Shri Mange Ram Garg, state convenor of the Samiti, Shri Brij Mohan Big and Shri Ashok Kumar addressed the agitators at Shalimar Bagh. They courted arrest at DCP office in Ashok Vihar.
