Akhil Bharatiya Krishi Evam Gramin Mazdoor Mahasangh, affiliated to BMS, has demanded more transparency in the 100-days employment under National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS). Addressing a gathering of more than 2000 landless agriculture and rural labourers at a conference organised at Bethuadahari, Nadia in West Bengal, Shri Vishambhar Waghmare, general secretary of the Mahasangh informed that the government accepted their demand to open accounts in the banks and Post Offices on zero balance for all job card-holder and make their payment through that account only so that reckless corruption in the scheme could be checked. More than ninety per cent of the participants in the conference were women. Shri Khursad Alam, an agriculture labourer leader, gave details of the problems of the agriculture labourers. Shri Priyabrata Dutta, general secretary of BMS West Bengal, spoke on the joblessness of agriculture labourers due to SEZs. Others who addressed the gathering included Shri Brojen Das Saho, Kshetra Pramukh of Eastern zone and Shri Manbendra Bose, district president of BMS Nadia unit. Shri Sushil Burman, eminent social worker presided over the meeting.
