Commitment is a single-pointed intention towards the fulfilment of one'sdesires. Commitment initiated at a deep level of awareness ?orchestrates its own fulfilment? and is the ultimate assertion of human freedom. It enables man to take quantum leaps in creativity, opening new dimensions of awareness. Deepak Chopra, who is co-founder with the author David Simon of the Chopra Center for Well-Being, says, ?Through the power of commitment, your personal intentions engage the forces of nature so that fulfilment becomes your daily reality.?

Commitment is a contract between your body, mind and soul. The body is a collection of molecules that enables man to experience the world. It includes the sensory equipment that connects man to his environment and the motor system that enables him to act upon the world. The mind is a field of thoughts engaged in a continuous conversation about what has happened, what is happening and what might happen to us. In response to the perpetual experiences, we make discriminations, evaluations and judgement which are coloured by emotional reactions. Thoughts, memories, desires and feelings are various expressions of the mind.

The soul is the silent witness to the mind and body. Our body changes, our mind changes (our beliefs about ourselves and the world are different now as compared to the earlier times) and underlying this dimension of change is the quietly observing soul which provides continuity to our identity. When the observing soul, thought-generating mind and physical body are aligned, our intentions get translated into choices that result in the desired outcome.

Commitment implies action because when we commit something, we devote ourselves to a course of action that we believe will result in the expansion of happiness and well-being. The fulfilment of commitment is realised when our intentions become our automatic style of functioning.

The author has listed ten commitments and says that through commitment we can translate our desires into actions that bring about transformation and healing.
