Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) president Shri Ashok Singhal and Mahamandaleshwar Swami Hansdas inaugurated a new building under the second phase of Nishkam Sewa Trust in Haridwar on May 4. Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, national president of Dharmyatra Mahasangh and founder of Nishkam Sewa Trust Shri Mangeram Garg, Shri Rajendra Pankaj of VHP, Education Minister of Uttarakhand Shri Madan Kaushik and Chairman, Municipal Committee of Haridwar Shri Kamal Jora were also present on the occasion.
According to Shri Mangeram Garg, the first phase of the Trust was inaugurated on March 1, 1992 by founder of Bharatmata Mandir Swami Satyamitranand Giri. A total of 100 rooms were constructed under the first phase, which are available to all free of cost. The meals to all the visitors are provided free of cost here. Under the second phase, 40 air-conditioned rooms have been constructed, which are now available at very nominal charges. The building of the Trust also has three halls with the capacity of 250, 400 and 1000 people respectively. Shri Garg also pointed out that the Trust runs a Sadhu Sewa project under which about 300 sadhus and saints are provided free breakfast every day.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Ashok Singhal said the Nishkam Sewa Trust has presented a unique example of social service and this should be emulated by all. Swami Hansdas appealed to the people to work for protecting the free-flow of the River Ganga, which has been blocked by the government. He said arresting the free-flow of the holy river would bring disaster and the politicians should not put the life of all the creatures in danger.
A souvenir was also released by Shri Ashok Singhal and Prof. Jagdish Mukhi at the inaugural function. (Ravindra Saini)
