Dr Madhusudan Vidwans of Mumbai says, (Loksatta, March 4, 2008) ?In order to have more doctors several private medical institutes are established with few not fully equipped. The aspiring student-doctors after paying donation and exorbitantly high fees for admission and tuition are alleged to develop a tendency to recover the funds professionally by hook or by crook. The concept of family doctor is changed to specialist advising to carry out several medical tests before any final decision.? The illegitimate business like kidney scam recently exposed has also tainted the medical profession. The common people will naturally suspect the veracity of the expensive and catacomb-treatment advised by the consultant. It is preferred to adopt healthy life style as suggested and one may decide depending on the type and degree of the disease whether to go in for surgery or for non-surgery treatment.
