The Red terror in Kerala reached the national capital on March 9 when the violent CPI(M) goons attacked the peacefully demonstrating BJP-RSS-Hindu Manch workers and injured 20, including eight policemen. The violence lasted for over a couple of hours as the CPI(M) goons continued pelting stones and throwing sharp-edged weapons, brickbats, chairs and butts of woods, etc. from the party headquarters. These workers of various nationalist organisations were protesting the CPI(M) violence in Kannur where the CPI(M) workers have killed five RSS swayamsevaks in four days.
Despite the fact that policemen were eyewitnesses to the stone-pelting and violence by CPI(M), the FIR has been registered against the victims and not against the perpetrators of violence. A total of 21 BJP and Hindu Manch activists were named in the FIR including Leader of Opposition Prof Jagdish Mukhi, Delhi BJP president Dr Harsh Vardhan, BJP MLAs Sahib Singh Chauhan, Mohan Singh Bisht, Motilal Sodhi and state BJP general secretary Pawan Sharma. Fourteen activists including several senior councillors like Prithviraj Sahani, Shyam Sharma, Moolchand Chawla, Satyeshwari Joshi and Harish Awasthi who were in custody till granted bail on March 12.
Meanwhile, the BJP has demanded the imposition of President'srule in Kerala and the sealing of the CPI(M) headquarters located at Gole Market in Delhi. Former Deputy Prime Minister Shri L.K. Advani sought immediate central intervention to put an end to the violence unleashed by CPI(M) cadre against the BJP and RSS workers in Kerala. He took up the issue with the Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil. Listing out the previous incidents of attacks by CPI(M) cadre on BJP and RSS workers, he said it needs to be mentioned that Tallacherry has a history of four decades of such attacks on party workers and around 55 BJP-RSS workers lost their lives during that period. ?This is the place where Jayakrishnan, the state vice-president of the BJYM and a primary school teacher, was brutally murdered by CPI(M) goons in the classroom in full view of his students,? he said.
Prof. V.K. Malhotra, Dr Harsh Vardhan and Prof. Jagdish Mukhi jointly blamed the Left parties and the Congress for misleading the public about the violence. Blaming the government and the police for remaining indifferent, Prof. Malhotra said they had to wait for three to four hours before their complaint against Karat and Yechury was received. ?The Congress is trying to protect them as it is dependent on their support. The attack on BJP workers shows that now Kerala is being repeated in Delhi too,? he added.
?The BJP workers were peacefully protesting outside the CPI(M) headquarters against the atrocities perpetrated by the CPI(M) cadre on RSS workers in Kerala. Under directions from the CPI(M) leaders Sitaram Yechury and Prakash Karat, stones and chairs were thrown at them. Twelve of our workers were injured, including several women activists. They have been admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. And the cars of our leaders were damaged. Dozens of our activists have been hospitalised after the attack,? Dr Harsh Vardhan told Organiser. He demanded the immediate arrest of Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan and CPI(M) state unit chief Pinarayi Vijayan under National Security Act. He also petitioned to President Smt Pratibha Patil and demanded that Home Mnister Shivraj Patil be told to issue orders to lodge an FIR against CPI(M) leaders Sitaram Yechuri and Prakash Karat. He alleged the Home Minister was pressurising the Delhi Police to protect the communist leaders.
Prof. Mukhi accused that the Congress is trying to appease the CPI(M) by falsely implicating BJP workers. He added that the misuse of police by the government to harass its opponents is condemnable. Interestingly, some senior Congress leaders including Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Union Tourism and Culture Minister Ambika Soni and AICC spokesperson Veerappa Moily visited the CPI(M) headquarters.
The BJP activists present at the Patiala House court, when the BJP-RSS workers were produced, raised slogans Vande Mataram and mar mitenge desh ke liye. Those who have been named in the FIR were garlanded. Dr Harsh Vardhan and Prof. Mukhi also went to attend the court hearing and extended their full support to the arrested party workers. ?None of the BJP workers was carrying any weapons of any sort and the attack was initiated by the CPI(M) workers,? said Pinky Anand, advocate, who moved the bail application while submitting a video recording of the incident made by the Zee News. A delegation of BJP leaders led by Dr Harsh Vardan also met the Police Commissioner of Delhi Y.S. Dadwal and demanded an immediate action.
Scores of organisations of Delhi including Akhil Bharatiya Sahitya Parishad, Rashtriya Sikh Sangat and Hindu Manch demanded immediate release of BJP and Hindu Manch workers and a strict action against the CPM goons. Meanwhile, a massive demonstration was staged at Jantar-Mantar on March 12 demanding immediate release of BJP workers and the arrest of CPI(M) leaders Sitaram Yechuri and Prakash Karat. More than 5000 workers participated in the demonstration.
