Sanskar Bharati in association with Zee TV organised a function in Mumbai on January 5 to pay tribute to the martyrs of 1857 war of Independence. The function, which witnessed the presence of Subhash Ghai, Shayam Benegal, P.S. Pasricha, Shammi Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Raj Babbar and Subhash Chandra, Boney Kapoor, Aruna Irani, Anoop Jalota, Shoma Anand and Nitish Bhardwaj, was part of the Sanskar Bharati'scountrywide campaign to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the 1857 freedom struggle. For the event soil from the states where the martyrs of the 1857 uprising lived, was collected and placed in pots. Children from the popular reality music show Little Champs performed on various patriotic songs during the event.

The function held in Mumbai was the beginning of the Sanskar Bharati'snationwide campaign Is mitti se tilak karo, (salute to the soil). According to Shri Rajdutt, national president of Sanskar Bharati, a function in Patna from January 25 to 27 and another function in Bithur from February 15 to 17 would be organised by the organisation. He said function to this effect would be organised in Kolkata, Bangalore and Chennai also. Besides these prominent places, the functions will also be organised in Jhansi, Meerut, Jagdishpur, Jabalpur, Santhal, Satara, Kolhapur, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Warangal, Sanbhalpur, Kalpi, Ludhiana, Ferozpur, Jalianwala Bagh, Amritsar and in the states of Karnataka, Kerala, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, Tamil Nadu, Haryana and Bihar where people had participated in the freedom movement of 1857.  (FOC)
