Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) organised a Deshbhakti Sandesh Yatra in Karnataka to celebrate the 150th anniversary of 1857 war of Independence.
The valedictory function of the yatra was organised in Mangalore on January 13. A procession was also taken out as part of the programme, in which thousands of students participated. Speaking on the occasion, the ABVP national joint organising secretary, Shri Surendran alleged that the anti-national activities in the eastern part of the country were increasing and the neighbouring country Bangladesh was hatching a plot to divide India. According to him, we are facing a threat from Bangladesh more than Pakistan and the Centre has failed to consider the matter seriously.
Mooting a ?Brihat Bangla? conspiracy theory, he said illegal immigrants from Bangladesh were trying to create a ?Greater Bangladesh? by attempting to separate 11 districts of Assam, four in Bihar, eight in West Bengal, four in Tripura and three in Chhattisgarh.
He further pointed out that in the name of Naxalism and agriculture revolution, the country is being divided. While clarifying that all Muslims in the country are not anti-nationals, however he did condemn those who celebrate the victory of Pakistan over India in a cricket match as anti-nationals.
Another speaker on the occasion was the chairman of the Nitte Education Trust, Shri N. Vinay Hegde who said that a situation has arisen in the country wherein those who have money and power can do anything. He demanded that the government should take steps to protect the internal security. Exhorting the students to unite, he urged them to inculcate the greatness of patriots and work for the progress of the country. Reception Committee president of the yatra Dr U.S. Krishna Nayak welcomed the gathering, while the introductory remark was made by the yatra convenor Shri Harish Acharya. Former Minister Shri Nagaraj Shetty, former MLAs Yogish Bhat, Krishna J. Palemar and MLC, Capt. Ganesh Karnik were also present on the occasion. (FOC)
