Born on September 17, 1950, at Mehsana Damodardas, Shri Modi joined the BJP in 1987. In 1988, he was made a general secretary of the party. In 1995, he moved to Delhi after split in the BJP, effected by Shankersinh Vaghela. He was in charge of five states at the national level as a national secretary. On October 6, 2001 Shri Modi replaced Shri Keshubhai Patel as Gujarat Chief Minister. When there was an attack on the Sabarmati Express, Shri Modi had a turning point in his political carrier and in 2002 he led the BJP to a landslide victory in the assembly elections. This time in 2007, he made another victory for the party with 117 MLAs out of 182 seats and at the age of 57, he is the third time Chief Minister of vibrant state Gujarat.
