Bhubaneswar (Visakeo)- Taking cue from their Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh counterparts, who have so far turned down the proposal of introduction of sex education in school curriculum, Orissa School and Mass Education Minister Bishnu Charan Das has made it clear that the sex education will not be introduced in the state after strong opposition from various students and parents body. Minister Das was speaking at a prize giving ceremony (Medhabi Abhinandan-2007) organised by the Shiksha Vikas Samiti, a state unit of Vidya Bharati at OUAT auditorium in Bhubaneswar on July 1.
Meanwhile, the Samiti congratulated the toppers of Saraswati Vidya Mandir as 18 students of this school have secured a place in the best 20-merit list in the High School Certificate Examination in 2007. Minister Das gave away awards and certificates to the toppers. It may be noted here that as many as 5,003 students of 116 SVM schools appeared in the HSC examination and 4,772 students at an average of 96 per cent passed the examination. As many as 3,315 students passed with first division, with the percentage stands at 67 followed by 1,066 students passed with second division at an average of 22 per cent and 7 per cent students passed with third division as figure stands at 391. Similarly, 51 schools recorded cent per cent results and 17 schools recorded not a single second division student. On this occasion, Minister Das released a book titled Krutitva Bartika-2007.
Vice Chancellor, Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology Prof. Devi Prasad Ray attended the function as guest of honour while Vidya Bharati'snational organising secretary Prakash Chandraji joined as the chief speaker. Shiksha Vikas Samiti'sPresident Prof. Prafulla Chandra Mahapatra presided the meeting, Samiti'ssecretary Ramesh Chandra Tripathy and former vice president of Vidya Bharati Dr. Nagendranath Pradhan were among those present on that occasion.
