Rameshwaram (Ramanathapuram District): Authorities of the famous Sri Ramanathaswamy temple performed an atonement pooja after local MLA Hasan Ali entered it on June 12. It is said Hasan Ali wanted to see for himself the cracks in the temple'seast tower and report to the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR and CE) Minister. Temple authorities performed ?parihara pooja? (cleaning and atonement pooja) on June 24. The BJP'slocal unit, upset over Hasan Ali'sentry, has put up posters condemning the entry of the MLA, a non-Hindu. The VHP and Shiv Sena also condemned the MLA'sentry. The BJP has declared that it will thwart the MLA'sentry if he tries to go into the temple again, because, Ali, instead of apologising for breaking the Hindu temple tradition, has declared that he would enter the temple again.
