Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has launched a unique programme namely Swasthya Seva Charak Yojana, in Orissa, under which 150 trained and well-equipped health workers have been deputed to render free health services in the remote areas of the state.

These health workers are named as ?Hindu swasthya karmis? and include both men and women, who had undergone an intensive training from 15 to 16 May, 2007 at Cuttack. Fifty-one doctors of S.C.B. Medical College were engaged to impart necessary medical educations. Shri Aurobindo Chowthaiwalle, VHP'scentral secretary along with Retd Judge Raghunath Das inaugurated this training camp.

Prof. Dr. Lalatendu Pattnaik, the renowned medico and the state president of this unit who was monitoring the training camp, told Organiser ?despite of government'sendeavour, a large part of the state remains untouched and neglected from health care. Nuapada, Kondhaml, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Ganjam, Deogarh districts are yet to see and experience the primary health care facilities. Hence, we have decided to reach at the doorsteps of those neglected Vanvasis who are deprived of health care and sanitation. It is the sole motto of Hindu swasthya karmis, he added. They will create awareness, among the people and nourish them according to their ability.

According to Dr Pattnaik, these Hindu health workers will work as whole timers and their maintenances will be born by the VHP and Charak Swasthya Prakalpa, jointly.

On the eve of this occasion VHP'scentral secretary and deputy chief of Seva Vibhag Prof Madhukar Dixit told newsmen Swasthya Seva Charak that Yojna is an experiment in Orissa. I believe it would be successful and VHP would launch this all over the country.
