Ever since the LDF regime came into power, concerted and calculated moves are being made by the Pinarayi Vijayan dominated CPM state committee, DYFI and SFI to attack and demoralise the CPI and its youth and student wings AIYF and AISF.
Although physical attack against CPI by the CPM has been going on for almost two decades, the latest moves have a direct link to the war going on between the Pinarayi and Atchudanandan camps. Pinarayi and his chota comrades are seething with anger against CPI and its leader Veliyam Bhargavan, who teamed up with Atchudanandan to prevent Karunakaran'sentry into the LDF, thereby torpedoing Vijayan'sdream of becoming chief minister. Moreover, it is Veliyam Bhargavan who is constantly monitoring the portfolios handled by Pinarayi cronies like Kodiyeri Balakrishnan (Home) and voicing his criticism. When Kodiyeri refurbished his official bungalow for almost Rs. 30 lakh, it was Veliyam, much more than the Congress opposition, who criticised him at the LDF meet. Veliyam also criticised P.K. Sreemathi, Health Minister and Pinarayi supporter, for ineffective handling of the Chikungunya disease.
In South Kerala, Kollam district is a stronghold of the CPI and CPM wants to gain an upper hand there at any cost. The college union elections provided a perfect background for the CPM-DYFI-SFI to physically attack the CPI-AIYF-AISF axis. The SFI-DYFI goons attacked a girl student of Chavara Government College and state committee member of AISF seriously and she is still in hospital with grievous head injuries. The AISF hit back by disrupting the meeting of Sindhu Joy, SFI president, at St. Gregorious College, Kottarakara and AISF secretary Arun described SFI as an abode of criminals. He also charged policemen of teaming up with SFI-DYFI to attack AISF men. Also in most colleges of Kollam district the elections were fought separately by SFI and AISF owing to which the Congress students wing KSU got elected. This has infuriated the SFI further.
Violent at the defeat of the SFI in the Government College at Attingal, the CPM-DYFI-SFI goons started verbally abusing and physically attacking CPI-AIYE-AISF cadres. Later they barged into CPI office and destroyed furniture, telephone, valuable office documents and smashed the framed photograph of the late CPI leader and former Chief Minister P.K. Vasudevan Nair.
In Kollam district, unhappy at the permanent infighting between VS and Pinarayi groups, several CPM, DYFI and SFI cadres have joined the CPI and its front organisations. This latest series of attacks is a warning to the CPI and the deserters to mend their ways, as the CPM wants to stop the flow and regain its upper hand at any cost.
Two decades back, when similar attacks took place in Thrissur, the CPI cadres stated arms-training classes for its cadres to resist CPM attacks. Perhaps CPI has to dust and grease its old weapons and tighten its belt for another round of war fare with CPM. The commies shout from the roof tops for unity of all working class, but here two working class parties are facing each other with stone age weapons and stony eyes. Long Live Communism!
