Uttaranchal unit of Hindu Jagaran Manch burnt the effigy of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav for organising a roza iftar party and offering namaz at the banks of the Ganga in Haridwar during the recent National Executive Meeting of Samajwadi Party. It was strongly opposed by various Hindu organisations including Hindu Jagaran Manch and Hindu Krantikari Dal. Thousands of activists of these organisations were outraged to see the roza iftar party at the VIP ghat of the Ganga. Hearing the news of the party, a large number of Hindu Jagaran Manch activists gathered at the ghat to protest the illegal action of the Samajwadi Party. District President of Hindu Jagaran Manch, Shri Prem Singh Saini and Vice President Shri Shyam Sunder led the agitation against the Samajwadi Party leaders and criticising Mulayam Singh'santi-Hindu attitude burnt his effigy.

Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav said there is nothing wrong in organising such a party and offering namaz at the VIP ghat. He even demanded the removal of the DM of Haridwar who had said that organising iftar party and offering namaz at the VIP ghat in Haridwar is illegal as non-Hindu activities are not allowed at the banks of the holy river. During the iftar party, eggs and meat were served at the sacred ghat and the remains of eggs and meat were found at the ghat, which outraged the Hindu organisations. The police arrested several workers of Hindu Jagaran Manch and took them to the police station but later released them.

There is also news of burning the effigies of Mulayam Singh Yadav in other parts of the state. In Dehradun, addressing the agitators, Shri Rajendra Bhandari, state general secretary of the Manch, said serving meat in the iftar party at the banks of the Ganga is an insult to the most sacred river and crores of Hindus. Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav and his party must tender an apology for hurting Hindus? religious sentiments. Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha also burnt the effigy of Mulayam Singh Yadav and expressed anger against the anti-Hindu activities in Haridwar.
