“The name, fame and money that we earn from this society should be shared with the needy and downtrodden people among whom we live. It is better if such services are done without disclosing the name. It gives immense happiness,? said Shri Kidar Nath Sahani, senior BJP leader and former Governor of Sikkim. He was speaking at a function held in Delhi by the ?Prerana?, a social organisation dedicated to the cause of physically challenged people. Shri Sahani presented artificial limbs to 650 handicapped people and also honoured some of the meritorious students. Shri M.S. Bitta, former Union Minister and chairman of All India Anti Terrorist Front, Shri Mahendra Nagpal, former metropolitan councillor and chief patron of the association, Shri Prem Sagar, chairman of the Aggrawal Welfare Association, Ashok Vihar were also present on the occasion. Shri Sahani said there are various service activities going on the society for poor and downtrodden but the number of the organisations is very less which work for the physically challenged people. ?We need to draw prerana (inspiration) from the Prerana,? he said describing service to needy people as the cause of real happiness. Shri Mahendra Nagpal, who is also associated with various social and religious activities for years, called upon the youth to show greater interest in the service of needy people. He said the society has given us everything, so we should not forget our responsibility towards it. He said every physically challenged person should feel that he/she is not alone and the whole society is with him/her. Shri M.S. Bitta while lauding the activities of the association stressed the need to generate the feeling of self-respect among the needy people. He said ?such people should not be served with the feeling that I am doing something for someone, but with the sense that I am discharging my responsibility towards my own brothers.? Shri Yogesh Sharma, chairman of the ?Prerana?, pointed out that a total of 970 needy people were provided help and artificial limbs at the function. He said the association was in forefront during the natural calamities like tsunami, earthquake in Gujarat, help to the injured army personnel during the Kargil War, etc. ?(FOC)
