?Women need to come forward to protect the Hindu society from ideological, social, cultural and economical degradations,? said VHP president Shri Ashok Singhal. He was speaking at the Akhil Bharatiya Matrishakti Pratinidhi Sammelan held in Akola, Maharashtra. He said the Matri Sammelan has been organised to make women stronger. He said no organisation could make progress without the active participation of women. He said women are worshipped only in our country, as we believe that only women have the capacity to destroy the evil forces.

VHP general secretary Dr Pravin Togadia said the Hindu Shastras believe that service to an old lady makes Goddess Lakshmi happy. He said if elder women are associated with the organisation in good number and special functions are organised for them, it would make the organisation stronger. A total of 160 women from 32 prants participated in the convention.

Chief guest Sadhvi Mangalanand said this is a fact that women cannot decide what should be shown on TV but they can definitely decide what should be watched on TV. She said a mother should decide what her children should watch on the TV. Earlier inaugurating the convention, Dr Lila Agase said women are still seen as a burden even after 60 years of independence. Smt Ashwinitai Hatavlane, Mayor of Akola, Smt Minatai Bhatt, vice president and Smt Minatai Peshwe, Mahila Pramukh of VHP, were also present on the occasion.

Shri Champat Rai, joint general secretary of VHP, said the Ramjanmabhoomi movement is not just a movement for constructing a temple, but is a struggle for Hindu asmita. Shri Omkar Bhave also spoke on the occasion.

The convention adopted several resolutions demanding the status of religious books to the national song Vande Matarm and the Gita. Sushri Girija Dube said the women wing of VHP would make efforts to start satsangs and service projects in every block of the country. She said before the third Vishwa Hindu Sammelan at least one Matri Sammelan would be organised in every prant. She pointed out that during the birth centenary year of Shri Guruji the women wing has taken up various programmes. She said 101 bal samskar and personality development camps would be organised in the country. She also pointed out that 100 seminars will be organised about Vande Mataram in various colleges.
