RSS Sarsanghachalak Shri K.S. Sudarshan has called upon the new generation of the country to work for uplifting the spiritual standard of society. He described spiritual upliftment as the key to national reconstruction. He also stressed the need to use Indian languages for extending the qualities of Indian philosophy, glorious culture, spiritual legacy and the tradition of knowledge to the new generation in real perspective. He was delivering a memorial lecture organised by Madhya Bharat Prant to celebrate the birth-centenary of Shri Guruji on ?Contemporary Challenges Facing India? at Ravindra Bhavan in Bhopal.

Shri Sudarshan said Bharat would have to remain connected with its spiritual legacy and traditions and the new generation needs to be instilled the sense that they are the successor of that legacy.

Criticising the Western model of development, Shri Sudarshan said it is of no use in India, as it is centralised, provides employment to few and is focussed on cities. He called for protecting the nation from the competitive culture of the West, which develops a feeling of envy and struggle. He also mocked at beauty pageants and boxing competitions.

The Sarsanghachalak said the current challenges like poverty, communal hatred, population imbalance and domination of the English language would last till the year 2011, after which India has a bright future ahead of it. He maintained that reverting to Indian values would ease out these problems. He said the dwindling self-respect of people and their failure to uphold glorious Indian traditions are the root cause of challenges like poverty, unemployment, communal conflicts, Muslim and Christian appeasement, Western influence on Indian traditions and onslaught of multinational companies. He said though India would face a bright future after 2011, the country would face challenges posed by jehadi terrorism and growing network of churches. He warned that Islamic terrorism could even cause a nuclear war, which could claim up to 400 crore lives.

Shri Sudarshan also hit at the growing influence of English language. He said he met nine Chief Ministers of Hindi belt and asked them to start a university each where the medium of instruction should be Hindi.

Presiding over the lecture, Shri Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, said the spiritual and material development should proceed together for the development of society. He further said the purity of soul is preferred in the Indian thinking, while in the West the material development dominates. He said despite so much materialistic development, the societies in the West are facing division. Sadhvi Pragya Bharati released a set of 20 books on Shri Gutuj. Justice (retd.) Sachindra Dvivedi, president of Prant'sShri Guruji Birth Centenary Celebration Committee, also spoke on the occasion.  (FOC)
