It was providence that saved the RSS headquarters in Nagpur from Islamic terrorists. No word is sufficient to express the gratitude of the nation to the alert police personnel who in a daring encounter killed the three terrorists and foiled their attempt to blow up the Sangh establishment.

For the millions of swayamsevaks, Sangh work is divine. The mission is to establish truth and dharma, to raise the level of national resolve, to inculcate character, patriotism and readiness to serve the Motherland. The Sangh headquarters in Nagpur is like a place of pilgrimage, for it is where the Smriti Mandir of the Sangh founder Dr Keshav Baliram Hedgewar is situated. The Sangh third-year training camps are also held in the campus, and it is a historic place for all the well-wishers of the nationalist movement. That is why the terrorists are targeting this sacred place in the Shri Guruji birth-centenary year. This is a matter of great concern.

The Sangh is the voice of a united resurgent India. Hence, it is understandable that the enemies of the nation target the Sangh and its leadership. Thousands of swayam-sevaks have laid down their lives and martyred in the cause of the nation. In fact, the training of the Sangh is the sacrifice of the self in the service of the country.

But this should not distract us from the ground reality?the confidence the enemies of the nation have gained in the last two years under the UPA regime. In fact, every action and utterance of this government are providing succour and comfort to all variations of secession, terror and subversion.

It is not surprising that the Centre decided to extend the tenure of the Sachar Committee, a patently divisive agenda?to enhance Muslim presence in the army and government on the same day as the jehadi terrorists tried to strike at the Sangh headquarters. The UPA has proved that it is soft on terror, as the Leader of the Opposition L.K. Advani, pointed out. Rather it is proactive in promoting extremists and separatists.

It was only last week that the Prime Minister went to Srinagar to reassure the separatists, offering them ?self-rule?, freedom from jail life and stern warning of ?zero tolerance to human rights violations? by security forces posted in sensitive terror-infested terrains.

This was a clear signal to jehadis of all shades of green that the Centre was out to tie the hands of the forces that fight them. It is in this context that the Sarsanghachalak Shri K.S. Sudarshan described the attack in Nagpur as part of a series of attacks on holy places with the idea of creating social tension. The UPA has repeatedly displayed its inability and disinterest in fighting all the manifestations of jehadi terrorism. Delhi markets on the eve of Deepawali, Ram temple in Ayodhya, Sankat Mochan temple in Varanasi on the eve of Holi, Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, Hindus in Doda, tourists in Srinagar, have all suffered jehadi attacks in the last two years. The attempt on the Sangh Karyalaya is the latest in this series.

The nation cannot afford to remain content that the alert and committed security forces will swing into action on every occasion. Hundreds of them lay down their lives every month combating this menace in different parts of the country. As a nation we have to organise and defend our sovereignty, unity and above all force the government to act decisively against the harbingers of mayhem and bloodshed.

If the government fails in protecting the lives of innocent people, and the security of the country, it has no right to remain in office. It is for the UPA to prove that it is not turning India into a soft state.
