Jharkhand'supward march
If one looks at the human development index vis-a-vis number of candidates selected in Indian Institute of Technology test, then without any doubt Jharkhand is on top. This year'sIIT-Joint Entrance Examination results are testimony to it. In Jharkhand, 240 candidates have been selected from Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad and Bokaro for the IITs this year, which is the highest among the eastern states. Out of 13,395 students who appeared for the IIT screening test from these four districts, 1,197 students qualified for the main exams and 240 finally managed to crack the counselling held at IIT, Kharagpur. This year, the IIT-JEE was held for 4,935 seats at the institutes in Mumbai, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Madras and Roorkee, besides the Institute of Technology, BHU and Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad.

?High-tech? House
A week before the beginning of the Parliament session, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Gulam Nabi Azad convened a press briefing at Parliament House. When Gulam Nabi started the briefing, it was found that the loudspeaker was not working. So the presspersons complained to the Minister, as they were unable to hear him. Then the Minister requested the mediapersons to go for the refreshments first and the briefing would start thereafter. When inquired, it was found that the engineer, in charge of the sound system, was not present and the machine was turned off. And what is more, the room, in which the machine was installed, was locked. If this can happen to the minister in Parliament House imagine the plight of aam admi under UPA.

Gulami attitude
Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh'sshowering praise on British Raj in pre-Independence India, at Oxford University clearly shows his ?gulami mentality?. How can the PM, coming from of a party that leaves no opportunity to claim that it was the party that worked for the Independence of India, praise British Raj? It is said that NAC Chairperson Sonia Gandhi cleared the speech of PM Manmohan Singh.

No justice in HRD
Recently, there was an advertisement for the post of Director, Academics in National Open School. After the interviews took place, Shri Ishwar Chandra Asthana was selected for the post and the HRD Ministry approved it. Later, Leftist organisation Sahmat raised a hue and cry against the selection on the pretext that Shri Asthana was a RSS man. Then the Chairman canceled his appointment. It is worth mentioning here that Shri Asthana had already worked as a Director on probation for one year in National Open School and originally he is from Haryana Education Board.

Sanskriti deleted from curriculum
Among the many surprises for the students, Union HRD Minister Arjun Singh has instructed that one subject, Sanskriti, which was included during the NDA regime, should be deleted from the curriculum. Last year, students of tenth class had studied it but this year they need not study it.
