Sarsanghachalak of RSS Shri K.S. Sudarshan has called upon the Sangh Swayamsevaks to take up rural development projects on a large scale. He was talking to prominent Sangh workers at a three-day camp in Dehradun, which. began on February 24. The camp concluded on February 26 with a public meeting, which was addressed by the Sarsangha-chalak.
Dividing development of villages under three categories, namely Kiran Gram, Prabhat Gram and Uday Gram, Shri Sudarshan emphasised the need to make villages fully developed, as ?development of villages and villagers would bring true prosperity in the country?. To achieve this purpose he stressed the need for social literacy, social sanskars, social security, social health, social harmony and social prosperity. ?Keeping all these points in view, the Swayamsevaks should resolve to make villages Prabhat Grams. It is the duty of RSS Swayamsewaks to see that there should not be a single illiterate person in the villages as nothing can be expected from an illiterate person,? he said.
Talking about social sanskars he regretted that in the West families were breaking up. ?Family members in those countries have lost love, respect and affection for one another. This is the reason that countries like America, Britain and France spend 22 to 65 per cent of their total growth production on social security. But our sanskars are different from the West. We have deep reverence, love and affection for our family members. It is our duty to retain our sanskars landed down for generations. Social sanskar should be given from childhood,? he added.
Citing the case of Swami Vivekananda, he said, ?After returning from Colombo, Vivekananda lay down on the ground in Chennai and continued till he was covered with dust. When he was asked the reason, he said that he was an integral part of the soil of his motherland. He had to keep himself away from the soil of his motherland during his visit to foreign countries. This is a sanskar of patriotism and love for Bharat Mata.?
Shri Sudarshan said that social health should be maintained by cultivating herbal plants. ?There are innumerable plants in Nature that can help in preventing several kinds of diseases. Villagers should be made aware of this. Social harmony is also essential for an ideal society. Differences between the high class and low class should be bridged. Discrimination between high class and low class has harmed Hindusim a lot but now it must be stopped. All are Hindus, should be our mantra,? he said.
The last point for village development, Shri K.S. Sudarshan said, was social prosperity. He stressed the need for saving drinking water. ?Drinking water should not be wasted. Rain-water should be stored by various methods for drinking and irrigation purposes. Such an experiment has succeeded in Gujarat where storage of rain-water resulted in a rise in ground level of water from 5 to 17 metres. Instead of ploughing the fields with tractors, bullock-driven small tractors should be used as they do not cost much; do not dig the soil deep and also do not kill earthworms, which render the soil fertile. Use of chemical fertilisers should be stopped at the earliest because the fertility of the soil is being destroyed by chemicals and they are harmful for human beings. They cause various diseases like diabetes, blood pressure and even heart attacks. Use of pesticides should be curbed, as they are equally harmful. Instead of using pesticides, farmers should use a mixture of cow urine and boiled water of neem leaves, as it will lessen the effect of crop-eating insects. Small industries based on agriculture should be developed,? he added.
Commenting on the recent developments in Nepal, Shri Sudarshan said that it was internal matter of Nepal and King Gyanenedra should bring peace and democracy as soon as possible with the co-operation of democratic forces.
He expressed concern over the hollow promises made by politicians without converting them into reality. He said that politics had divided the Hindu society into caste and creed, region and language, which was not good for the well-being of the society. ?Lalu Prasad Yadav claimed that development had taken place in Bihar while the truth is on the contrary. A murder after every four hours, a rape after every six hours, a robbery after every eight hours and a kidnapping everyday take place in Bihar. In West Bengal, the government makes hollow claims on development and has ruined the state during its rule of 27 years. Constructive policies have not been adopted and followed by the politicians in the country. Now the Sangh has taken the task of village development work. In spite of the bewildering variety of sects, castes and sub-castes, languages, customs and beliefs, food and dress, the Hindus have stood up and affirmed their intrinsic unity due to the efforts and work of RSS. Today the whole nation, including those who are opponents of the Sangh, are looking at the Sangh with a hope for guidance to achieve the goal of a mighty and a model Bharat?, said the Sarsanghachalak.
Dr Anil Joshi, while presiding over the function, appealed to the people to preserve their culture, language and moral values and understand the RSS policies and its vision and contribute to achieving its goal. About 700 senior RSS workers participated in the camp. Shri Ram Lal, Kshetra Pracharak, Jyoti Swarup, Kshetra Pracharak Pramukh, Dr Jagmohan, Kshetra Sanghachalak, Darshan Lal Arora, Uttar Pashchim Madhya Kshetra Karyavah, Chandra Pal Singh Negi, Prant Sanghachalak, Shiv Prakash, Prant Pracharak, veteran worker Dr Nityanand and Jitendra Goel, Vibhag Sanghachalak were among the prominent adhikaris present on the occasion.
