The sudden decision of the Prime Minister to reduce the presence of troops in Jammu and Kashmir has mixed reactions.
While the nationalists are surprised over the development, the secessionists and elements desining to distance this State from India have generally welcomed the move and they see in it a ray of hope.
The leaders of the BJP and many others have described the decision as pre-matured and ill-timed. According to them the first and formost duty of any government is to provide security to the people. But the killings and destruction by the ultras are going on unabated. Daily 8 to 10 persons are being done to death and there is no let-up in the terrorist violence. However, there has been some docline in infilteration of terrorists but for fencing of the border/LOC and installation of some modern equipments, in addition to vigil of the security forces.
As far as Pakistan is concerned, it is being officially confirmed that the infrastructure for terrorism is still intact. Hundreds of highly trained and motivated terrorists have been kept in the State of readiness for infiltration. The only hitch is that of finding opportunity to sneak this side of the LOC/border.
