G.R. Madhavrao, president of Hindusthan Samachar news agency, passed away on September 17 at his native village, Dalansore in Karnataka. He was 84. He was suffering from cancer for the last few months and was staying with his brother, Shri Govardhan Rao, in his village. G.R. Madhavrao was an engineering graduate from Mysore Engineering College. After completing engineering, he became a Sangh Pracharak and also worked with Hidusthan Samachar as a journalist. Madhav Rao was among the workers who not only took extraordinary interest in restarting Hindusthan Samachar but also contributed in making it an effective news agency that could meet the needs of the changing scenario in media. He was elected president of the agency on August 14, 2001. A condolence meeting was held at Hindusthan Samachar office on September 23 to pay respect to the departed soul. Describing Madhavrao as the frontline worker of Hindusthan Samachar, RSS Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh, Shrikant Joshi said that he started the agency under very adverse circumstances. ?The agency is working due to his dedication and hard work. He wanted Hindusthan Samachar to make progress rapidly. The best tributes to him would be for us to expedite the work of the agency so that it could achieve its pristine glory. We all need to emulate his spirit of dedication,? Shri Joshi said. Prominent among those who paid tributes included Dr Nand Kishore Tirkha, Secretary of Hindustan Samachar, Shri O.P. Pandit, senior journalist, Shri Baleshwar Aggarwal, former editor, Hindusthan Samachar, Dr Ravindra Aggrawal, editor, Hindusthan Samachar and journalists Dr Kuldip Chand Agnihotri, Bhavatosh Chakravarty and Tarun Vijay.
