VHP general secretary, Dr Pravin Togadia, has alleged that the Central Government by releasing the changed religion-wise statistics of the census had played with democracy and misguided the countrymen. He said that it had been done under pressure from the Muslim League and mullahs and maulvis. He asked the government to declare a policy to curb the burgeoning Muslim population and debar those people who had more than one child to contest any election from village Panchayat to Parliament. He announced to carry out a countrywide awareness campaign after Diwali. He said the differences in the statistics released on September 6 and September 9 clearly indicated that they had been distorted to appease the Muslim League. He demanded that the government should release the statistics of infertility and sterilisation of Hindus and Muslims. He warned that the growth of the Muslim population was worrisome due to the fact that Hindus would face a similar trouble just as they were facing in Kashmir because of increase in the Muslim population.
