Appeal by Arya Samaj and RSS
Oppose the creation of separate district for Mewat
By Pramod Kumar
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), while extending full support to the Arya Samaj'smove for opposing the creation of a separate district for Mewat, the Muslim-dominated belt in Gurgaon district of Haryana, has also called upon its Swayamsevaks to oppose the move tooth and nail. The decision was taken at a meeting held in Gurgaon on September 5. A resolution was also adopted at the meeting, which was presided over by the Zila Sanghchalak, Major (retd.) Deendayal. ?The move to carve out a separate district of Mewat is purely a political move and has nothing to do with the development of Mewat. There is already a separate Development Authority for Mewat, which has budget of crores of rupees. It is illogical to create a separate district,? the resolution said terming the move as ?communal?, as the proposed district would be a Muslim dominated, which is against the spirit of Constitution. ?The move will also encourage the activities of ISI agents who have been active in the region for quite a some time,? the resolution further said. The Mewat region comprises 30 Assembly constituencies of Alwar and Bharatpur districts of Rajasthan, Ferozpur Jhirka, Nuhu and Tawaruy tehsils of Gurgaon and Hathin tehsil of Faridabad districts of Haryana and about 12 villages of Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh. The Muslims of this region were Hindus a few centuries back and they had maintained their Hindu samskars and traditions till the twentieth century. But since a few decades the fundamentalist mullahs and maulvis have pressurised them to follow only the Muslim traditions. The total population of this region is about 12 lakh, which includes about 7.5 lakh Muslim, the others are Hindus. (FOC)
