BHARATIYA Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) strongly protested against the anti-worker stance of Central government on decent work for domestic workers at the 99th meeting of ILO held at Geneva recently. The Government of India favoured ‘recommendation’ in place of convention against the unanimous stand of Indian central trade unions. BMS general secretary Shri K Lakshma Reddy wrote a letter to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh demanding probe into the entire episode. “Instead of supporting the proposed convention on ‘decent work for domestic workers’, unfortunately the official delegation of Government of India moved an amendment seeking recommendation in place of convention. When it was put to voting, majority members including the representatives of central trade union organisations of India casted votes against the amendment made by the Government of India. In the wake of defeat of the move, anti-worker image of the government emerged which tarnished the reputation of our nation.
