Universities and Researchers must deepen community engagement for the upliftment of society: Dr Mohan Bhagwat

The aim of the Sangh is not merely organisational expansion, but to lead the country towards excellence through character-building and, on that foundation, social transformation leading to systemic transformation, said RSS Sarsanghchalak Dr Mohan Bhagwat on November 16, 2025 while interacting with young researchers during the ‘Yuva Shodharthi Samvad

NEW DELHI: “To understand what truly benefits society, researchers and universities must deepen their direct engagement with the community. Some subjects exist purely at the level of knowledge, while many others are closely linked to social utility and upliftment. Therefore, universities must maintain a strong and continuous connection with society”, said Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarsanghchalak Dr Mohan Bhagwat on November 16, 2025 while interacting with young researchers during the ‘Yuva Shodharthi Samvad – Shashwat Moolya, Naye Ayaam’ programme organised at the auditorium of Pathey Kan Sansthan, Malviya Nagar, in Jaipur.

He also answered the questions posed by the young researchers. He said that the RSS is widely discussed today, there are well-wishers of the organisation, and there are many opponents as well. The well-wishers lag behind in dissemination, whereas the opponents are far ahead in this work. They have woven a web of falsehoods. Therefore, if one wishes to know the RSS, one must go to its original sources. See what the RSS literature says, and observe it on the ground. Only then should one form an opinion. If you want to see the RSS directly, go to RSS shakha. When you look at the lives of dedicated swayamsevaks, you will understand the RSS.

Stating that the shakha is essential for shaping both life and work, he said that the shakha inculcates discipline, collectiveness, refinement of conduct, and control of ego. The work of the RSS is only to build individuals, and its method is the shakha. The RSS only runs the shakha, swayamsevaks do everything else. It is the swayamsevaks who drive social transformation. This is why swayamsevaks have undertaken exemplary work in various spheres of national life. The organisation runs on the dedication of swayamsevaks. In our system, nothing is lacking and nothing overwhelms, hence everything functions smoothly.

Dr Mohan Bhagwat further said that even if, for some reason, it is not possible to attend the shakha, a person should still perform his work with excellence, selflessness, and integrity, this too is service to the nation. He urged people not to form opinions about the RSS based on external impressions. The aim of the Sangh is not merely organisational expansion, but to lead the country towards excellence through character-building and, on that foundation, social transformation leading to systemic transformation.

“Today the RSS has a large presence and its reputation is established. Yet the purpose of the RSS is not to seek fame, but to build the nation. This task cannot be accomplished by the RSS or any single organisation alone; the entire society must come together. If an organisation becomes complacent, its relevance may gradually diminish. Continuous activity is therefore essential”, he further said.

He said that the core objective of Sangh is the upliftment of the nation. This is not only the RSS’s work, this is the responsibility of all of us. Like doctors, engineers, and artists, regular practice is necessary for everyone.

On a question on Sangh’s expenses, Dr Mohan Bhagwat said the money comes through ‘Guru Dakshina’, saying, “Questions were raised on how the Sangh is funded, and we told that it comes through ‘Guru Dakshina’.”

Dr Bhagwat said that today the Sangh’s work has become a topic of discussion and social affection. The achievements of the Sangh’s swaymsevaks and pracharaks are being trumpeted.
He said, “A hundred years ago, who could have imagined that running such shakhas would achieve anything for the nation? People used to say that they were just swinging sticks in the air. How will they protect the nation? But today, the Sangh is celebrating its centenary year, and its acceptance in society has increased.”

A total of 260 researchers and scholars from 34 universities of Rajasthan participated in the interaction programme. Rajasthan Kshetra Sanghchalak Dr Ramesh Chandra Agrawal and many other distinguished persons were also present on the occasion.
