RAIPUR: A 30-year-old youth was gravely injured in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh on January 22. The explosion took place near the forest area of Lankapalli under the jurisdiction of Ilmidi police station of Usur block, causing grave injuries to Raju Modiyam.
According to reports, Modiyam, who had gone to the forest area accidentally stepped upon the IED planted by Naxalites on Thursday afternoon, triggering an explosion that injured one of his legs.
The injured youth somehow managed to escape the forest and was spotted by villagers, who immediately rushed him to a nearby health centre. Modiyam received primary treatment and was subsequently referred to the Bijapur district hospital, where he is currently being treated.
A team of security personnel also reached the blast site and conducted a search operation in the vicinity. The incident has once again triggered fear and panic among locals who often visit the forest areas to collect forest produce and graze cattle.
Earlier, a similar explosion led to fatal injuries to a youth in Bijapur district itself on January 18. The blast took place near Kasturipad village, which falls under the jurisdiction of Usur police station, injuring a local youth identified as Ayta Khurrami.
Khurrami was evacuated and rushed to the nearest hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
IEDs planted by Maoists to cause harm to security personnel often lead to injuries and civilian casualties in remote forested zones. Security personnel, on the other hand, are carrying out continuous operations to unearth and destroy IEDs planted by Naxals.
