New Delhi: In a major success for security forces, top Maoist leader Ramdher Majji alias Soma surrendered before police in Chhattisgarh’s Rajnandgaon district on December 8.
Ramdher, a central committee member of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) surrendered before the police with 11 other members of his group marking a major breakthrough for security forces.
A resident of Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, Ramdher was said to be in-charge of Maoist’s Maharashtra-Madhya Pradesh-Chhattisgarh (MMC) zone. He was named in 61 case and carrying a bounty of Rs 1.05 crore on his head.
Others who laid down weapons along with Ramdher include of divisional committee members Chandu Usendi Janki, Lalita, Prem and Sagar, Ram Singh Dada, Lakshmi, Sheela, Kavita, Yogita, Prem and Suresh. The group also surrendered weapons including of AK-47s, SLRs and INSAS rifles.
With this, almost all top Maoists operating from Maoist’s MMC zone which covers forested pockets of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and bordering areas of Chhattisgarh have surrendered before the police.
Notably, a day earlier top Maoist commander Kabir had also laid down weapons with his associates in Madhya Pradesh Balaghat district.
In a related development, a top Maoist operative carrying a bounty of Rs 25 lakhs surrender before police in Andhra Pradesh’s Alluri Sitharam Raju district on December 7.
Dirido Vijjal alias Jaylal along with his wife Madvi Gange surrendered before the police citing disgruntlement with the Maoist’s ideology. Both of them were active in the Darbha division with Jaylal also being a member of the south zonal committee of the banned group.
Jaylal was active in the Maoist’s outfit for around forty years and involved in 15 major encounters. His wife Gangi on the other hand was involved in more than half a dozen encounters with security forces. She was carrying a bounty of Rs 8 lakhs on her head. Both Jaylal and his wife are residents of Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district.
