Raipur: In a tragic development reported from Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, Maoists have executed a contractor involved with road construction work on December 7, according to media reports.
The incident unfolded on Sunday evening when a group of Maoists abducted contractor Imtiyaz Ali, a resident of Uttar Pradesh and assaulted him brutally leading to his demise. Ali was said to be associated with a road construction project.
The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of Pamed police station in Bijapur district, an area long marred by Maoist’s presence.
As per reports, a group of Naxals abducted Ali and one of his staff taking them deep inside the forests near the Errapalli security camp. The ultras later thrashed Ali black and blue for his involvement with the road construction project.
Ali’s associate however managed to escape from Maoist’s captivity and reached the Errapali camp where he informed the authorities about the incident. The police have launched an investigation into the matter and efforts are being made to nab the culprits behind the incident.
It is to be noted that people associated with road construction work in insurgency-hit regions are often been targeted by Maoists who staunchly opposes such projects fearing that better road facilities will ease the movement of security forces in interior areas.
Security forces on the other hand though have firmed their presence in the regions previously dominated by the outlawed group by erecting numerous Forward Operating Bases or the Company Operating Base (COB) along launching frequent anti-Maoist campaign.
Forces in separate operations launched this year have gunned down more than 275 Naxals. Majority of these anti-Maoist campaigns were launched in state’s Bastar division which includes of 7 districts including severely Maoist-hit districts like Sukma and Bijapur.
Persistent operations along establishment of security camps have also led to mass surrender by former Naxalites, more than 2250 of whom including a few top leaders have laid down arms under state’s rehabilitation initiative in past two years alone. The government aims to eliminate red terror from Bharat in the next 3-4 months.
