Gaya: Bihar police and the Special Task Force (STF) nabbed a wanted Maoist from Gaya Ji district, police said on December 4.
The arrested individual was wanted in several cases pending against him at separate police station of Gaya Ji district.
The accused identified as Uttam Ram alias Rajesh Das, a resident of Atari was facing charges including under the stringent Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), Arms Act and the 17 CLA.
Acting on intel, a joint team arrested Das from Buniyadganj Khijarsarai road on Thursday. He was named in a total of 8 cases including a case of arson at a base camp in 2016.
Bihar has largely succeeded in eliminating the Maoist-insurgency which once had a dominating presence across dozens of districts. According to officials, only a few armed Maoist cadres remained active in the state with no Maoist related violence reported in 2025.
With negligible Maoist related cases in the state, the administration has successfully held polling in previously Naxal-affected regions after a long gap in both the general elections and the assembly polls.
Booth were setup for the first time in two decades in Chormara village of Jamui and Bhimbandh of Munger in the state assembly polls. This was made possible after the security forces set up a number of Forward Operating Bases strengthening the security apparatus in the affected zones.
Additionally, security forces and the state police have carried out continuous campaign in affected areas of the state, cornering the Maoists to a few pockets of bordering districts. In 2025, police have nabbed at least 90 individuals who were wanted in connection with Maoist related cases
Officials hinted that the police aim to meet the March 2026 deadline set by the Union Government to wipe out the red terror from the country.
