LUCKNOW: In a comprehensive review meeting that was held in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials to make this year’s Magh Mela an event of “grand scale and divine experience,” ensuring that every arrangement from sanitation to security, is in place for the crores of devotees expected to arrive.
The Magh Mela 2025, one of India’s largest annual spiritual gatherings after the Maha Kumbh, will begin in January and continue for one and a half months. The Chief Minister announced that the event is expected to attract 12 to 15 crore pilgrims, including nearly 20-25 lakh Kalpavasis, who will stay by the riverbanks for a month of devotion, meditation, and charity.
Yogi Adityanath emphasised that this year’s event will be larger and more elaborate than
previous years, drawing on the experience gained from the successful organisation of the recent Maha Kumbh. “We are committed to organizing the Magh Mela with utmost grandeur and spiritual essence,” he said, emphasizing that every arrangement should embody the state’s dedication to faith, discipline, and seamless management.
The Magh Mela, held annually in the month of Magh (January-February) at the sacred Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati, has been a centre of spiritual activity for centuries. Devotees believe that bathing in the holy waters during auspicious dates washes away sins and brings divine blessings.
This year, the bathing dates will arrive 15 days earlier than usual. The Chief Minister announced the key six holy bathing days (Snans) as follows:
