Ayodhya witnessed a historic moment on November 25, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat ceremonially hoisted the saffron Dharma Dhwaj atop the 191-foot shikhar of the newly completed Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir, marking the architectural culmination of a struggle that endured for half a millennium. The occasion, aligned with the sacred Abhijit Muhurat of Vivah Panchami, transformed the Mandir town into a sea of devotion, symbolism and deep civilisational emotion.
Arriving early in the morning, the Prime Minister first offered prayers at the Sapt Mandapam, a cluster of shrines dedicated to sages and figures integral to the Ramayan tradition including Maharshi Vashishtha, Vishwamitra, Agastya, Valmiki, Devi Ahilya, Nishadraj Guha and Mata Shabari. He then proceeded to the Sheshavatar Mandir before ascending the shikhar for the Dhwajarohan ceremony.
Addressing thousands of devotees, saints and dignitaries gathered inside the Mandir complex, PM Modi described the historic hoisting of the Dharmadhwaj as an event healing “the wounds of centuries” and fulfilling a “civilisational resolve kept alive for 500 years.”

“Today, the entire India and the world is Ram-may. There is unparalleled satisfaction in the heart of every devotee. The wounds of centuries are healing… Today marks the culmination of that yajna whose fire remained lit for 500 years without wavering in faith,” he said.
Calling it a defining moment in India’s cultural renaissance, PM Modi noted that the saffron flag now flying over Ayodhya symbolises not merely a ritual but the “rebirth of a civilisation.”
The triangular Dharma Dhwaj 10 feet high and 20 feet wide is embedded with three sacred emblems:
- The Sun: Signifying Bhagwan Ram’s lineage from the Suryavansh
- Om: The primordial spiritual syllable
- The Kovidara tree: A rare hybrid created by Rishi Kashyap, traditionally associated with purity and divine presence
PM Modi emphasised that the flag would remain an eternal reminder of Ram Rajya’s values truth, duty, justice, compassion and harmony. “This Dharmadhwaj is not just a flag. It is the banner of the rejuvenation of Indian civilisation. For thousands of centuries ahead, this flag will proclaim the values of Bhagwan Ram,” he asserted.
In a powerful message for India’s future, the Prime Minister urged citizens to rise above short-term thinking and embrace a civilisation-scale vision.
“Those who think only of the present do injustice to coming generations. In 2047, when India completes 100 years of independence, we must build a Viksit Bharat. We must strengthen India’s foundation for the next thousand years.” He reiterated the need to shed remnants of colonial inferiority, stressing that democracy is intrinsic to India’s heritage.

PM Modi urged every visitor to Ayodhya to visit the Sapt Mandapam, which he said reinforces the values of friendship, duty, inclusion and harmony. “Ram unites through emotion, not division. Devotion, not lineage, is what matters to him.”

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath called the Dhwajarohan a symbolic dawn for the nation. “This is not merely the Purnahuti of a Yagya, but the beginning of a new era for India. The Ram Mandir stands as the symbol of the faith and self-respect of 140 crore Indians,” he declared.
Recalling decades of struggle, sacrifice and unwavering devotion, he said the event represents the spiritual and emotional culmination of a movement that lasted generations.
The ceremony saw an assembly of saints, seers, dignitaries and citizens from across the country. After his address, PM Modi walked through the gathering, greeting invitees alongside Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Governor Anandiben Patel.
