Lonavala, Maharashtra: Addressing the 101st Foundation Day of Kaivalyadhama Yoga Research Institute, founded by Swami Kuvalyananda Ji, RSS Sarsanghchalak Dr Mohan Bhagwat said that in the pursuit of material progress, humanity has inflicted great harm upon nature. For true sustainable development, he stressed, the upliftment of both humanity and nature is essential.
Dr Bhagwat said the idea of nurturing the creation is rooted in the Yoga Shastra. “Bharat holds the path to eternal life in harmony with nature, and we must advance it for global well-being,” he remarked.
Mahamandaleshwar Swami Vishveshwaranand Giri Ji, former Union Minister and President of Centenary Year Committee Suresh Prabhu, and CEO Subodh Tiwari, among others were present on the occasion.
“Yoga is not just a form of exercise but a means to connect all beings,” Dr Bhagwat said. “Through yoga practice, one attains balance of body, mind, intellect, and soul. Kaivalyadhama is working to build individuals who can usher in a new era of peace and happiness on earth.”
He emphasised that yoga can ensure the well-being of the individual, family, society, and the world. “Diversity is ever-changing, but unity is eternal. Bharat’s rise and prosperity are for the good of the world. Ancient Bharatiya knowledge is essential for global well-being,” he added.
Dr Bhagwat further stated that science and spirituality are not contradictory. “Just as science is proven by experiments, spirituality is proven by experience. Future scientific research will be possible only through inner inspiration or internal science,,” he said.
“The progress of science has reached the understanding of the subtlest particles. Yet, there exists an even subtler particle beyond that. On the other hand, the vast universe visible in space is, in a way, a reflection of the past. Hence, modern science too is arriving at new conclusions,” he explained.
Swami Vishveshwaranand Giri exhorted, “Swami Kuvalayananda performed the great task of testing Yoga on the parameters of modern science and preserving it. It was due to his farsightedness that an institution like Kaivalyadhama came into being—one that has safeguarded our ancient knowledge and tradition in seed form. Both the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, which is celebrating its centenary, and Kaivalyadhama are engaged in the service of the nation.”
Suresh Prabhu noted that Kaivalyadhama symbolises purity in Yoga Shastra. “It shapes individuals into responsible components of society, while the RSS works for building an organised, capable Bharat. In its centenary year, society is actively participating in the Panch Parivartan (five transformations) identified by the Sangh, and this will lead to a major social change,” he said.
Subodh Tiwari said that Kaivalyadhama is striving to bring the science and tradition of Yoga Shastra to society. “Along with integrating yoga practice into higher education, research is also being conducted at Kaivalyadhama on the application of yoga science in cancer treatment,” he said.
During the event, two books were released — Yoga Police by Dr Sharadchandra Bhalekar and Sattvic Aahar by Dr Ritu Prasad. The programme was compered by Shanaya Vatsyayan. In the morning session, the Sarsanghchalak visited the laboratories and institutions located at Kaivalyadhama.
