Maa Durga murti visarjan turned chaotic on October 1, 2025, in Nayakheda village of Burhanpur district, when a dispute over the use of a DJ during the procession escalated into stone-pelting. According to reports, members of the Muslim community objected to the loud music, which sparked an argument between the two groups. The confrontation resulted in one youth being seriously injured and a Durga idol being partially damaged.
As per Dainik Bhaskar’s reporting, the incident occurred during the afternoon visarjan procession. The procession passed near a mosque, where objections to the DJ’s volume led to heated arguments, ultimately escalating into stone-throwing from both sides.
VHP leader Shankar Chauhan alleged that after being asked to complete the visarjan quickly, participants faced attacks when they approached local authorities to file a complaint.
Following the incident, local Hindu organisations staged a protest outside Navara police chowki overnight, demanding immediate registration of an FIR against the accused. Protesters warned that they would not disperse until strong legal action was taken.
Around 9:30 PM, Nepanagar MLA Manju Dadu visited the site, appealing to demonstrators to maintain peace. Her intervention helped calm the situation, and the crowd eventually dispersed.
Burhanpur police confirmed that the dispute was minor but temporarily escalated. Superintendent of Police Devendra Kumar Patidar stated that normalcy has been restored, but additional forces have been deployed in Nayakheda village and surrounding areas as a precautionary measure. The police are patrolling the area to prevent any further incidents and have begun identifying the accused to ensure strict action is taken.
This incident adds to a growing list of community tensions arising during religious events in Madhya Pradesh.
Similar conflicts have previously occurred, including stone-pelting at Kali idol celebrations in Vidisha. Such incidents underline the need for administrative vigilance, proactive policing, and increased dialogue between communities during festivals to maintain harmony.
