Patna: Singer and actor Pawan Singh on September 30 met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Bharatiya Janata Party [BJP] president JP Nadda in New Delhi.
The Bhojpuri singer who contested independently from Karakat Lok Sabha constituency last year also met with Rashtriya Lok Morcha [RLM] chief Upendra Kushwaha.
Singh, a former member of the party was expelled from the BJP after he contested from Karakat constituency against the then NDA candidate Upendra Kushwaha.
The Bhojpuri star on Tuesday however asserted that he was never away from BJP. “When did we separate? We are together,” said Singh who enjoys a massive fanfare in the poll-bound state. He also exuded confidence that the NDA will perform exceptionally well in the upcoming assembly polls.
Singh’s expected return to the BJP is likely to benefit the NDA in the assembly polls, more particularly in the Shahabad region which include Bhojpur [Ara], Buxar, Kaimur and Shahabad district.
Reacting to the development, Union Minister Chirag Paswan on Tuesday said that Bhojpuri star Pawan Singh has always been a part of the NDA alliance, and if he joins the BJP, it will only benefit the alliance further.
“He was already a part of the alliance. Undoubtedly, his contesting as an independent candidate during the elections raised concerns within the alliance. This had caused the greatest harm to Upendra Kushwaha. But now that they have met, any differences must have been resolved. I have known Pawan for a long time. If he joins, the alliance will only benefit further,” said Paswan.
State assembly elections are scheduled to be held in Bihar in October-November this year with Election Commission of India yet to announce the dates.
The elections for the 243 state assembly seats is likely to be primarily contested between the ruling NDA and the Mahagathbandhan parties.
