The Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan highlighted the vitality for India to be prepared for a bio-threat and nuclear warfare despite the probability of their occurrence. While speaking at the scientific session on the 100th Raising Day of the Military Nursing Service(MNS) in the Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi, CDS Chauhan asserted that it will also be prudent for India to thwart the radiological contamination emanating from the manufacture of nuclear weapons. He said, these measures will comprehensively boost the security paradigm of the country.
He further added that the probability of a nuclear warfare is very less. However, it would be prudent for India to prepare for such unforeseen circumstances. The “security calculus” of India should always consider nuclear threat or nuclear war as a key factor. Meanwhile, a specific and exclusive set of protocols and measures has to be charted to tackle the radiological contamination and that should be ingrained as a part of the training process for the Armed Forces. “Preparedness against nuclear threats contributes to deterrence against its use. I think that’s important”, CDS Chauhan affirmed.

With respect to the bio-warfare and threats CDS Anil Chauhan exclaimed that covid-19 pandemic has been a big lesson to the world. There were severe lockdown and travel restrictions. It had brought the business and interaction of a globalized world to a complete standstill. Infact, these bio threats and man-made catastrophes, either accidental or natural is set only increase in the future. Thus, adequate vigilance and preparedness is crucial. “Defence against such threats and treatment of infected persons require different treatment protocols. We must be prepared for this in future”, CDS General Chauhan added.
Further, the Chief of Defence Staff also spoke about the emerging domains of warfare such as data warfare. In this direction he asserted the importance of decoding, understanding, concealing and safeguarding the Indian DNA structures, which is very unique. He focused on the need to preserve the critical medical data in an encrypted and secure form, given the spiking rates of cyber attacks and data warfare across the globe. The case histories, patient reports and other crucial medical data has to be very vigilantly protected, the securing of medical data is indeed a key pillar in the era of modern multi-dimensional warfare.
“Operational data, deployment related to health patterns, evacuation plans, all need to be secured from leakages. At the macro-level individual medical data protection is equally important. In this direction, role-based access and encryption of medical data is very relevant in today’s era of data-centric warfare where access to information will allow enemy or give him a bit of an advantage over us”, CDS Chauhan reiterated.
