India has strongly refuted the illogical and false claims asserted by the chief of NATO. While speaking to a private media platform on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin are having phone conversations and PM Modi has insisted President Putin to reveal his war strategy in Ukraine.
Ministry of External Affairs strongly rebuked to these irrational claims of the NATO chief and asserted that the statements are completely “incorrect and baseless”. MEA also urged the chief of NATO to restrain from expressing such careless comments as such claims would derail the global stature of India, a nation which always holds responsible and credible engagements. Such comments would also misinterpret the nature of international engagements of the Prime Minister and send wrong message to the world.
“We have seen the statement by Nato Secretary-General Mr. Mark Rutte regarding a purported phone conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin. The statement is factually incorrect and entirely baseless. At no point has Prime Minister Modi spoken with President Putin in the manner suggested. No such conversation has taken place,” MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said during a weekly briefing.

MEA spokesperson further reiterated that leaders of the major international organizations should exhibit “greater responsibility and precision” while making public comments. Baseless and irresponsible statements apparently do not align with the positions they hold. “Speculative or careless remarks that misrepresent the Prime Minister’s engagement or suggest conversations that never occurred are unacceptable,” he added.
India and the United States relations have hit a new low since President Donald Trump unleashed a tariff tussle with India. Currently, Washington tariffs on New Delhi stands at a massive 50 per cent that includes 25 per cent additional tariffs for purchasing the Russian oil. Trump’s tariff tantrums towards India, has seen a spill-over effect as few other allies of the United States are also illogically and baselessly targeting India, for its relations with Russia.
Meanwhile, MEA spokesperson yet again, clearly mentioned that India’s energy import strategy aims to secure the national interest and the needs of its 1.4 billion people. “As previously stated, India’s energy imports are meant to ensure a predictable and affordable energy cost to the Indian consumer. India will continue taking all necessary measures to safeguard its national interests and economic security”, MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed.
