Guwahati: Concerns over the Love Jihad cases have brought fresh anxiety to the Hindu community of Assam. Local communities and parents are voicing worries about the safety and security of Hindu girls and minors- especially those in school across the state. Such a very concerning case has come to light in Jorhat district. Reports reveal incidents where Miya Muslim men using fake Hindu identities purportedly targeted Hindu women and also lured young Hindu girls igniting a debate on the intention of the Miya community in the state. Even the government’s effort to tighten regulation has not been able to prevent Love Jihad cases in Assam.

A 14-year-old minor schoolgirl in Johat town has fallen prey to the love jihad conspiracy by a married Muslim man.

The love jihadi identified as Abdur Rahman from Nagaon district was working in Jorhat town for the last few years. As per report Abdur with a fake Hindu identity trapped a 11-year-old school girl in 2022 when she was studying in class six. He maintained a love relationship for the last 3 years. The victim is now a student of class 9 and 14 years old. On the day of Teachers Day on September 5 accused Abdur eloped with the minor girl. The victim went to school in the morning and didn’t return home.

The victim’s family lodged an FIR in Jorhat police station in the evening of September 5. Jorhat police conducted a thorough investigation of the case as the missing girl was a minor. After the preliminary investigation police came to know the involvement of Abdur Rahman in the case. Jorhat police traced him in Nagaon on 11th September.

Police found that Abdur trapped the minor girl with fake identity and false promises. He was arrested last night and the minor girl has been rescued. Investigation revealed that Abdur was already married and father of three children. The accused has been brought to Jorhat for further investigation. A case has been registered under POCSO Act against Abdur. Locals demand a proper investigation of the case. They said Miya Muslims from lower Assam districts come to different places of upper Assam and target Hindu girls, women and specially minor girls in school to be trapped in love jihad.
