The Left pseudo secular intellectual groups in Assam, led by Dr Hiren Gohain, have been trying for a long time to create an anti-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) environment in Assam. Dr Hiren Gohain, who took part in Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’, has been providing guidance to the Opposition parties in Assam to oust BJP from power. Dr Gohain defended Sarjil Imam, who publicly declared his intention to cut the chicken neck and separate North East from the rest of the country. A Hindu hater, Gohain is accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan, who once was an ardent supporter of the banned ULFA that organised a meeting on August 24 to oppose Assam’s Govt’s anti encroachment drive and invited the likes of Harsh Mander and Sayeda Hamid. Harsh Mander patronised the ‘Miya Poets’ group in Assam, which launched an anti-Assamese campaign at the international level. The Miya poets wrote poems and propagated their anti-Assamese views at an international forum terming the Assamese people as ‘xenophobic’. These people have become hyper active in Assam and are relentlessly trying to bring back Congress to power in 2026.
Sayeda’s Double Standard Exposed
In the meeting, former Planning Commission member Sayeda Hameed, raised her voice for Bangladeshi Miya Muslims staying in Assam. She asserted that Bangladeshis could stay in Assam: “What’s wrong if they are Bangladeshis? …Bangladeshis can also be here…To say that [they are] depriving the rights of others is troublesome, extremely mischievous and detrimental to humanity. Allah has created this earth for humans.”
Nonchalant towards Sanatanis & Buddhists
The irony is that so-called liberals like Sayeda Hamid were vocal against giving shelter and a dignified life in India to the persecuted Hindus and Buddhists. It’s a known fact to all that in the neighbouring countries like Pakistan and Bangladesh, Hindus and other minorities are living the life of Hell. Thousands of Hindus have been killed/persecuted in Bangladesh but their humanity is confined to the Mumins’ only. Their hearts don’t melt at the suffering of the Kashmiri Hindus. They are dead against the idea of providing shelter to the persecuted Hindus.
Mrs Hamid, married to a Pakistani stayed in Canada; got divorced in 1984 and came back to India. The famous Shah Bano issue came to limelight in 1985. While presenting herself as a Muslim women’s voice, Mrs Hamid did not spend a drop of ink to support Shah Bano, who was divorced by her husband and refused to give alimony citing Sharia law. Rather she preferred to side herself with the Islamic fundamentalist ideology and was critical of the Hindu way of life. Her uncle Mubashir Hasan was a Minister in the Pakistan Government and arranged the publication of Sayeda’s book there. During UPA rule, she got close to the corridors of power and became a member of the Planning Commission. In 2018, Sayeda Hamid wrote an article appreciating Imran Khan. Along with the so-called ‘liberals’ she came to the street demanding release of sedition charges accused Uman Khalid. NIA evidence established the prima facie case against Umar Khalid for which his bail was denied by the court.
Facing Demographic Invasion
Her advocacy for the Bangladeshi infiltrators’ right to stay in Assam exposes the Islamic design to make Assam a Muslim-majority State. Assam has been facing demographic invasion for decades. The indigenous people have been outnumbered in more than 9 districts. In Barpeta district (then subdivision) where Muslim population was 0.1 per cent in 1911, it has now become 72 per cent in 2011. Same is the case with some other districts as well. Sixty three lakh bighas of land have been encroached upon by the immigrant Muslims. More than 2,000 square kilometres of forest land have been destroyed since 1991. Land belonging to temples and Satra institutions have been encroached upon. In more than 40 constituencies out of 126, the immigrant Muslims are now playing a dominant role. There has been a long demand by the indigenous people of the State to free the encroached land and protect the socio-political rights of the indigenous people. It may be mentioned here that 855 Assamese youths lost their lives and thousand others mutilated in the Assam Movement, which lasted for six long years from 1979 till 1985. In 1985 the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi signed the Assam Accord to detect and deport illegal migrants who entered Assam after March 24, 1971. But the infamous IMDT Act practically made it impossible to detect and deport illegal migrants. The IMDT Act was scrapped in 2025 by the Supreme Court saying it facilitated external aggression and internal disturbance. Vote bank politics worked to subvert and mutilate the indigenous people of the State.
Insensitive to the concerns of the indigenous people, the Left liberal groups have been working to provide a shield to the Bangladeshi infiltrators. Assam Govt led by Himanta Biswa Sarma has taken strong steps against illegal occupation of Government land; more than 1,20,000 bighas of land have been freed from the encroachers. The immigrant Muslims even occupied temple lands which had been freed by Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma led Govt. Earlier, Himanta Biswa Sarma Government in Assam took stern action against child marriage which led to disproportionate increase of immigrant Muslims in the State. The Islamists are unhappy and trying their best to destabilise the State Govt. Jamiat Ulema -i Hind and other Islamic organisations are trying to spread misinformation against the Govt. The Government has freed forest land encroached upon by the immigrant Muslims. It has been done following due process of law. It has been a commitment by the BJP Govt to protect the interest of the indigenous people of the state.
