In Sirisilla district’s Gambhiraopet mandal, Narmal village, five people trapped in floods were rescued by the Army after being airlifted by special helicopters. Indian Air Force helicopters deployed in Nirmal district on Thursday rescued stranded villagers marooned by floodwaters.
Incessant rains over the past two days have thrown life out of gear across Telangana, with several districts, including Medak, Kamareddy, Rajanna Sircilla and Nirmal, witnessing severe flooding. Several villages and hamlets were inundated by floodwaters and completely cut off from all road connectivity.
The floods have badly hit road connectivity, with parts of NH-44 (Nagpur Highway) severely damaged. Nirmal District Police issued special instructions for motorists travelling between Adilabad and Hyderabad, urging them to follow safety precautions.

The Indian Army has deployed multiple Flood Relief Columns in coordination with the NDRF and SDRF, carrying out evacuations, clearing road blockages, and providing immediate medical assistance. Equipped with specialised boats and relief gear, Army personnel are relocating affected families to safer shelters and distributing essential supplies.
The Army also deployed a helicopter in Nirmal for critical rescue work. The Indian Air Force, acting on instructions from Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, prepared a rescue chopper from Hakimpet Air Force Station to support stranded citizens in Kamareddy and Rajanna Sircilla districts.

Minister Bandi Sanjay briefed about the Army helicopter pressed into service at Nirmal. Senior BJP leaders, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and BJP National President J. P. Nadda, called Telangana BJP chief Ramchander Rao, inquiring about the flood situation and giving assurance of complete support. They stated that if needed, manpower and relief material would be dispatched immediately from the Centre.
Speaking to media, Sanjay said, “As soon as I came to know that victims were trapped in Narmal floods, I immediately requested Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who sent Army helicopters. Yesterday, due to bad weather, they could not come. Today, as soon as the rains eased, helicopters arrived and airlifted the victims. I thank Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, and everyone who worked tirelessly since yesterday.”
Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy slammed the state government for its “slow response” and urged immediate deployment of more NDRF and SDRF teams in vulnerable pockets. He also demanded that the state release district-wise relief funds without delay.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy conducted a teleconference from his Jubilee Hills residence with Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, ministers D. Sridhar Babu and Seethakka, Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari and senior officials to review the situation arising out of the downpour. He is also expected to undertake an aerial survey of the flood-hit areas along with ministers.
Amidst the flood crisis paralysing several districts, reports suggest that CM Revanth Reddy chose to review the Musi River rejuvenation and Sports Hub projects from his office, rather than addressing the immediate emergency on the ground.
Officials said the Godavari river and its tributaries were in spate, affecting parts of Adilabad, Nirmal, Karimnagar, Bhadradri-Kothagudem and Khammam districts. Rescue teams continued to shift villagers to safer places through the day.
Cyberabad Joint Commissioner of Police also released an advisory for vehicles heading from Hyderabad to Adilabad on NH-44. Heavy vehicles must take a diversion at Medchal check-post and proceed via Siddipet, Karimnagar, Jagityal, Korutla, Metpally and Armur to reach Adilabad. Light vehicles should divert at Turpan, after Medchal, and follow the same alternate route.
Meanwhile, several irrigation projects across Telangana are witnessing alarming inflows. In Nalgonda district, the Dindi Project is receiving heavy floodwaters, with authorities on high alert as water levels continue to rise rapidly. Similarly, Sri Rajarajeshwara Reservoir in Rajanna Sircilla district has recorded massive inflows, forcing officials to open 18 gates to release water. Authorities have cautioned citizens living in nearby and downstream areas to remain vigilant.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Telangana witnessed extremely heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours till 8:30 a.m. on 28 August 2025. Nirmal district recorded 22 cm at Laxmanchanda, while Mulugu district reported 21 cm at Tadwai. Kamareddy district was the worst-hit, with Naga Reddipet, Bhiknur and Tadwai each receiving 33 cm, followed closely by Sadasivanagar and Lingampet with 32 cm, and Domakonda, Yellareddy and Machareddy recording 25 cm each. In Medak district, Chegunta registered 26 cm and Papannapet 21 cm.
