Bhubaneswar: For the past six decades, Rashtradeep magazine has been dedicated to fostering national consciousness and social awareness among the people of Odisha, embodying the spirit of Bharatiyata and Rashtra Pratham. As “Breaking India” forces seek to undermine the country, Rashtradeep has been igniting the flame of nationalist thought. The media’s foremost duty is to awaken the nation and society, and Rashtradeep has steadfastly upheld this noble responsibility for six decades. This was emphasized by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who served as the chief guest at the valedictory function of the Rashtradeep Diamond Jubilee (Sashthi Purti) celebrations.
Speaking at the event that was held on August 17 at Jayadev Bhawan in Bhubaneswar, Mohan Charan Majhi remarked, “Rashtradeep is a radiant beacon in the Odia journalism sphere. The role of media outlets like Rashtradeep, which nurture nationalist ideology, is immensely important for today’s society. The more active, outspoken, strong, and influential Rashtradeep becomes, the more beneficial it will be for both the state and the nation.”
The Chief Minister said that the media serves as the eyes and ears of society. He noted that if the media can expand its readership and viewership while maintaining professionalism and a sense of responsibility, it will benefit both itself and society. The media reflects society’s desires and expectations, especially regarding the government.
Additionally, the Chief Minister acknowledged that he and his government are aware of the challenges faced by the media and journalists in Odisha. He mentioned that the concerns raised by various journalists’ associations have caught the government’s attention, and the administration is sensitive to these issues and is actively exploring solutions.
Ram Madhav, an author, thinker, and Chairman of the India Policy Foundation, attended the program as the chief speaker. He stated that magazines like Rashtradeep are run by swayamsevaks throughout the country, who manage these publications even under challenging circumstances. Although the Sangh does not directly run publications like Rashtradeep, these magazines certainly have its blessings.
Madhav further emphasized that if the work of the Sangh could be summed up in a single phrase, it would be “Nation First” or “Rashtra Sarvopari.” With this spirit of prioritizing the nation above all else, volunteers contribute across various spheres of social life, from socio-political fields to journalism.
Madhav stated that although some may oppose the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the Sangh itself has no real adversaries. Over the past century, the RSS has faced numerous false and unfounded allegations.
In his welcome address, Chittaranjan Mahapatra, editor of Rashtradeep, noted that many editors have played a role in shaping the ideological journey of Rashtradeep, and its managing committees have evolved over time. However, one principle has remained constant: a steadfast commitment to the concept of Nation First and unwavering dedication to the nation.
The ceremony was presided over by Anup Kumar Bose, President of the Rashtradeep Management Committee and a senior advocate. Notably, the inaugural program of this celebration took place last November in Sambalpur, with various events held throughout the year across different districts of Odisha.
On this occasion, the “Samajik Samarasata Visheshank,” which focuses on the five transformations (Pancha Parivartan) of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s centenary year, was released.
Former Rashtradeep editors Mr. Jagabandhu Mishra and Shiv Narayan Singh, along with former associate editor Bipin Bihari Raut and former manager Dhrubacharan Behera, were honoured for their dedication and tireless service.
A documentary showcasing the 60-year journey of Rashtradeep magazine was screened during the event. The film highlighted how Rashtradeep was banned during the Emergency by Indira Gandhi’s authoritarian government and how, despite such adverse circumstances, the magazine continued to kindle the flame of nationalism and awaken society.
Satyanarayan Mishra, Secretary of the Rashtradeep Management Committee, delivered the vote of thanks, while Associate Editor Pragya Parimita Acharya introduced the guests and conducted the proceedings.
The event began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and a welcome song, concluding with “Vande Mataram.” In a nod to environmental conservation, saplings were distributed to the guests. The program attracted readers, writers, intellectuals, and several senior functionaries and volunteers of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh from various parts of Odisha, making it a grand success.
Additionally, Rashtradeep karyakartas and members of the management, including Jyotiprakash Mishra, Kulamani Pradhan, Ashutosh Mahapatra, Karunakar Swain, Arijit Pandey, Vikram Raut, and Gananath Lenka, along with other swayamsevaks, extended their support.
