The United States is once again providing a platform for two of its most dangerous proxies, Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir and fugitive Sikh separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, to spew venom against India from American soil. Within days of each other, these Washington-enabled operatives have launched brazen threats to India’s sovereignty, seeking to undermine the nation’s security and dignity in full public view.
During a lavish black-tie dinner in Tampa hosted by Pakistani businessman and honorary consul Adnan Asad, Munir made one of the most reckless and provocative statements ever issued by a foreign military leader against India. Emboldened by his deepening ties with the US political and military establishment, the Pakistani Army Chief threatened to unleash nuclear war if his regime’s existence were “threatened.” “We are a nuclear state. If we feel we are going to be wiped out, we will take half the world with us,” Munir declared, openly brandishing the prospect of global catastrophe.
The threats did not stop there. Munir menaced India over its sovereign right to review the Indus Water Treaty, promising missile strikes to destroy any future Indian dam on the Indus River. “We will wait for India to build a dam. When it is built, we will destroy it using 10 missiles. The Indus River is not the family property of Indians. We have no shortage of missiles,” he boasted, dripping with hostility. Such brazen war-mongering, delivered with the smug confidence of someone certain of his backing in Washington, is an alarming signal of how far Pakistan’s military establishment is willing to go when shielded by American patronage.
This was Munir’s second visit to the US in just two months, following a tense military standoff with India. In Washington and beyond, he met senior US political and defence leaders, attended the retirement ceremony of US CENTCOM Commander General Michael Kurilla, and ingratiated himself with his hosts by even suggesting that President Donald Trump be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. The irony of a man threatening nuclear annihilation while praising “peace” was apparently lost on the room. His crude analogy likening India to a Ferrari and Pakistan to a dump truck, implying that Pakistan would crush India in a collision, only underscored the juvenile arrogance driving his rhetoric.
If that were not enough, another dangerous American-nurtured element is preparing its own assault on India’s dignity. On August 15, India’s Independence Day, the self-styled chief of the banned terror outfit Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, will stage a so-called “Khalistan Freedom Rally” outside the Indian Embassy in Washington DC. Outlawed in India under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act since 2019, SFJ has long served as a propaganda arm for foreign powers intent on destabilising Punjab and fracturing India’s unity.
Pannun has already released a video declaring that he will burn the Indian Tricolour during the rally. In the footage, he is seen setting the flag aflame, daring the Indian government to respond, and announcing a “Burn the Tricolour” programme for the day. Just two days later, on August 17, Pannun and his handlers will stage another round of their sham “Khalistan Referendum” in the US capital, importing separatists from America and Canada to participate. This phoney overseas voting drive, first launched in London in 2021, has hopped across Western cities, from Geneva to Melbourne to California, in a campaign designed to erode India’s territorial integrity under the cover of “free speech.”
US Soil as a Stage for Anti-India Hostility
The timing and location of these two anti-India offensives are no coincidence. Both Munir and Pannun are operating in the warm embrace of Washington’s political space, granted the freedom to issue nuclear threats and incite separatism without fear of consequence. In practice, they serve as willing tools for a US establishment eager to apply pressure on India when it refuses to toe Washington’s line on strategic autonomy, defence policy, or economic alignment.
From Pakistan’s nuclear blackmail to Khalistani street theatre, the message from these Washington-backed puppets is the same that intimidate India, sow division, and challenge its sovereignty on the world stage. But India has weathered such provocations before and will continue to stand firm against any attempt, nuclear or separatist, to undermine its unity and security. The real disgrace lies in the American willingness to provide a megaphone to extremists and war-mongers, even as they target the world’s largest democracy on US soil.
