Former Achampet MLA Guvvala Balraju, a two-time legislator from Nagarkurnool district, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on August 10, in the presence of Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao, MP K. Laxman, and other senior leaders at the party’s state office.
Welcoming Balraju, Rao said the former MLA was inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s governance focused on the poor, marginalised, and national development. He expressed confidence that Balraju’s entry would strengthen the BJP not only in Achampet but across Telangana.
He further said Balraju entry into the party showcases the rising confidence in the vision and leadership of PM Narendra Modi, and that together they will work with greater dedication to strengthen the BJP in Telangana and serve the people.

Dr. Balaraju Guvvala, a two-term MLA from Achampet and former Government Whip of Telangana from BRS Party, first entered politics by contesting the 2009 Lok Sabha elections from Nagarakarnool.
Highlighting the BJP’s rise in the state, Rao noted that the party’s vote share increased from 13.9% in the 2023 Assembly elections to over 36% in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, where it won eight seats. The BJP also secured two MLC seats recently, which he said reflected its growing footprint.
Rao also announced the launch of the second phase of his district tour from August 18, after covering 3,500 km across 16 districts in the first phase, during which he met thousands of people and received hundreds of petitions.
Appealing to intellectuals, farmers, women, youth, and students to join the BJP, Rao urged voters to give the party a chance to provide “good governance and all-round development” in Telangana.
The event was attended by BJP leaders including MLA Palvai Harish Babu, MLC Anji Reddy, state general secretaries Gujjala Premender Reddy and Kasam Venkateshwarlu, spokesperson N.V. Subhash, and state treasurer Shanti Kumar.
Rao Targets Rahul Gandhi
In a sharp attack, Rao called Congress leader Rahul Gandhi a “fake Indian”, accusing him of spreading false propaganda on “fake votes” and EVM tampering. He said Gandhi never raised such allegations when Congress won in Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Telangana, but began doing so after setbacks in Maharashtra and Haryana, fearing losses in Bihar.
He further alleged that Gandhi is surrounded by “urban Naxals and anti-national forces” and indulged in misleading statements about the success of Operation Sindoor. Rao asserted that the BJP respects democratic outcomes and does not make unfounded claims after electoral defeats, as in Karnataka and Telangana.
