Guwahati: The warrior women of Indian army- It is no more a matter of dream only. Women officers of Indian armed forces are actively participating in battle-like situations and “Operation Sindoor” was just proof of it. Be it Col. Sofiya Quereshi or Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, numbers of brave women officers are now guarding the nation in land, air and sea.

Such a brave officer of the Indian Army is Dwipannita Kalita of Assam. She is the first paratrooper from Assam who has been featured in lifestyle magazine Femina along with few other Indian army women officers honouring the 78 years of India’s independence.

The feature showcases ten women from the Indian Army who are breaking barriers and redefining roles within the armed forces.

Hailing from a small town named Dhekiajuli in Darrang district, around 130 kilometres from capital city Guwahati, Major Dwipannita is a doctor by profession. She studied her MBBS in the Philippines and came back to India to serve the people of the nation as a doctor. She gained valuable experience during her tenure in a Delhi hospital and gained clinical experience in emergency and obstetrics departments.

But her dream was always to serve the nation in uniform. After the central government’s renewed norms Major Dwipannita got the chace to join the Indian army in her thirties and after marriage.

The brave officer now serves the elite Parachute Medical Regiment of Army Medical Corps. The dedicated officer is in the regiment which provides medical services in any geographical terrain.

The cover features her with eight other officers along with Colonel Sofia Qureshi, with the theme “In the Line of Duty.” Major Kalita finds balance outside of her military duties through gardening, jazz music, fitness, and time spent with her dogs. The people of Assam are proud of her success, dedication to duty and service to the nation which remains a potent source of inspiration for women throughout India.
