Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Kartavya Bhavan-3 on August 6, on Kartavya Path, New Delhi. This event marks the operational launch of Bharat’s new power center, a futuristic, eco-friendly, and technologically equipped complex that is set to redefine administrative functioning in the national capital.
Kartavya Bhavan-3 is the first building to be completed under the ambitious Central Vista Redevelopment Project—a massive initiative aimed at creating a unified, modern, and secure administrative ecosystem for the Government of Bharat. The building has been constructed with cutting-edge technology and sustainable materials to facilitate agile governance, faster policy implementation, and better inter-ministerial coordination.

Ministries that will now operate from Kartavya Bhavan-3
The new Kartavya Bhawan will now house critical ministries that shape Bharat’s domestic and foreign policy architecture. These include:
- Ministry of Home Affairs
- Ministry of External Affairs
- Ministry of Rural Development
- Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas
- Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME)
- Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT)
- Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of Bharat
These ministries have begun transitioning from outdated and deteriorating buildings such as Shastri Bhawan, Krishi Bhavan, Nirman Bhavan, and Udyog Bhavan, which were built haphazardly between the 1950s and 1970s without a cohesive architectural or functional plan.
Spread across 1.5 lakh square meters and consisting of 10 floors including a ground floor and two basements, Kartavya Bhavan-3 offers more than just office space. It is a state-of-the-art government complex with:
- 600-vehicle parking capacity
- 24 major and 26 minor conference rooms
- Smart entry systems and command centres
- Solar panels and e-vehicle charging stations
- Energy-saving LED lights and automated sensors
- Sound-resistant, heat-insulated glass windows
- Wastewater recycling and solid waste management systems
Designed to consume 30 per cent less energy, the building embodies PM Modi’s vision for sustainable, future-ready governance that aligns with Bharat’s climate commitments and technological aspirations.

The North and South Blocks longstanding symbols of colonial-era power are being vacated and repurposed into the ‘Yuge Yugin Bharat’ Museums. These museums will chronicle 5000 years of Bharat’s uninterrupted civilisational journey, showcasing everything from Vedic traditions and Mahabharata-era polity to modern Bharat’s space missions and digital revolutions.
This transformation signals a civilisational reset an effort to decolonise Bharat’s bureaucratic spaces and restore cultural pride. Notably, the architectural integrity of these heritage structures will be fully preserved as they are converted into museums of national pride and collective memory.
Earlier, Urban Development Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, underlined the long-term vision: ten Kartavya Bhavans will be constructed by April 2027, centralising all ministries under a cohesive architectural and functional framework. “The older buildings were neither planned nor cost-effective to maintain. They were built as per need, not vision. PM Modi felt that Bharat deserves power centers that reflect our national pride and are built with foresight,” said Khattar.
The construction of Kartavya Bhavan-1 and Kartavya Bhavan-2 is nearing completion and expected to be operational by next month. The remaining seven are in advanced stages of planning and construction. An underground metro corridor is also being built to seamlessly connect all these buildings, further ensuring convenience, security, and green mobility.
