Patna: As the Union Government has announced a deadline to eliminate red terror from Bharat by March next year, Maoist activities have come close to negligible in Bihar in 2025.
The state which was once badly marred by red terrorism has successfully contained the insurgency as Maoist activities in the state are now limited to a few inaccessible pockets only.
According to details, only a handful of armed Maoists remained active in the state with Maoist activities limiting to a few inaccessible pockets of Jamui, Lakhisarai and Chakarbandha region.
This has been achieved with the security officials running a continuous campaign against the extremists in Valmiki Tiger Reserve area and Diyara area of North Bihar along Aurangabad, Gaya, Nawada, Jamui and mountainous region of Kharagpur of South Bihar region.
According to police as many as 90 persons wanted in connection with Maoist related cases in the state have been so far apprehended by the police this year with the campaign to nab the remaining one continues.
Notably a joint team of police and SSB also apprehended Ravindra Singh Bhokta from Dumariya police station limits of Gaya Ji district on Monday. Bhokta, who was absconding for the past seven years was booked under the provisions of CLA, Arms Act and Unlawful Activities [prevention] Act [UAPA].
Tightening grip against the Maoist group in the state has also resulted in surrender of hardcore cadres like Akhilesh Bhokta, Bhola Koda and Ravan Koda who have laid down arms before the officials in recent months.
As per ADG Ops Kuntal Krishnan only [3] handful of armed cadres led by seasoned Maoist Suresh Koda are active in the state’s Kharagpur region with security team intensifying search operations to catch them. A few of the Maoists have also sneaked into neighbouring Jharkhand and efforts are on to nab them at earliest.
“Our target is to meet the deadline announced by the Union Government to eliminate armed Maoists. We are working on it. No violence activities were carried out by Maoists in the state so far in 2025. Search operations are being conducted and IEDs are also being recovered,” said the ADG.
Efforts are also being made towards convincing the active Maoists to surrender arms. If the Maoists choose not to lay down weapons, then our forces are also combing in the forest area and will retaliate if targeted, he noted.
