Umar Ansari, the younger son of late gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, was arrested in Lucknow on August 3. He faces allegations of submitting forged documents related to a property that had been seized by the administration under the Gangster Act.
Ghazipur SP Dr. Iraj Raja stated, “The property confiscated under the Gangster Act in connection with Mukhtar Ansari was targeted in this case. Umar Ansari attempted to get the property released by misleading the court, using forged documents that included a fake signature of his mother, Afsa Ansari.”
The documents were allegedly intended to facilitate illegal gains. Afsa Ansari, who is currently absconding, has a reward of Rs 50,000 announced for information leading to her arrest.
A case has been registered against Umar Ansari at the Mohammadabad Police Station in Ghazipur, with action being taken under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Authorities confirmed that further legal proceedings are underway.
Mukhtar Ansari: Gangster-Turned-Politician
Umar’s father, Mukhtar Ansari, passed away on March 28, 2024, following a cardiac arrest while receiving treatment at Banda Medical College Hospital in Uttar Pradesh.
A controversial figure with a long criminal history, Mukhtar was convicted in April 2023 for the 2005 murder of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai and sentenced to 10 years in prison by an MP-MLA court. Just days before his death in March 2024, he received a life sentence for obtaining an arms licence using forged documents in 1990.
Legal Trouble for Elder Son Abbas Ansari
Umar’s elder brother, Abbas Ansari, is also facing legal challenges. The former MLA from Mau Sadar was disqualified in June 2024 after being convicted in a hate speech case. A special MP-MLA court sentenced him to two years in prison for threatening government officials during a campaign speech in March 2022, where he warned of retribution after elections if his alliance came to power.
